Ours was a 70 Chevy wagon. I use to sit between second row and rearward facing back seat. Dad sold a 66 Chevelle Malibu to purchase.

I vividly remember going to Bob Ford in Dearborn, Michigan on Michigan Ave with my family to pick this car up brand new. We got about three miles before it ran out of gas and was towed back to the dealer. Ours was a '72 and blue woody. I loved that car and riding in the back - but it was a victim of the Ford rust curse. It had holes within three years.

In 1971, my folks and I traveled to California to spend the summer. June through August for my mom and I, through the first week of August for my dad. We stayed with my moms sister and her family. She was married with 5 boys. While we were there, I think we saw everything Southern California offered, including a day trip to Tijuana. My dad spent his career at Ford, so that’s where we headed, the dealership in Poway Ca, to rent a 1971 Ford Country Squire. It was the perfect vehicle for 6 boys, and 4 adults to travel in. Ours was brown and it got the job done. After a few weeks, my dad wanted to make me happy, so he returned the wagon, and rented a brand new blue Ford Pinto. After getting on the freeway and my mother said she “felt like she was riding on top of a lawn mower”, the Pinto was returned and my dad came back with a green Country Squire. My dad loved the car so much that when it was time for our family car to be replaced, he came home with a 1974 green Country Squire. My mother was NOT happy. She wanted a Cougar. Finally in 1977 she got her wish and my dad came home with a beautiful new 4 door Cougar Brougham as an anniversary present. The wagon and the Cougar were both great, but the Cougar was the eye catcher.

At a car show last week, I brought my 77 Yellow Granada 2 Door Ghia , next to me was a silver Corvette with black interior. Poor Vette owner. He was so lonely. I got all the attention. I had no time to eat lunch .

As a kid in the 1970, before there were minivans, this is all our parents had. These were used to haul everything from tools, plywood, and sheetrock to school kids with their backpacks to and from school. Many of them even had "school bus" signs on their sides. These were the "do everything" vehicle of our time. And in 1971 their engines still had decent hp on them.

I rode in the back seat of one of those as a kid. We actually had a '69 Coronet green woody wagon similar to this, but it didn't have those rear seats.

Gorgeous wagon. Gotta lose the JCWhitney catalog "fog" lamps, though.

I always like to know what engine that came with , a 1971 Ford had a plethora of engines choices, I would like to know which one this had.

THE Ultimate? Hmmm, I think THAT would be the Chrysler Town and Country Wagon. The LTD comes very close though.

My dad bought this 1971 wagon brand new, the body started rusting after a few years, inferior steel.

Had a 73 used in the 90s . With the rear seats down i hauled a 26 cubic foot Amana side by side in the back with the tail gate closed and window up The 73 to 78 was just the 69 to 72 body with fatter fenders and battering ram bumpers . likely the best wagons Ford ever built . Mine was blue on the same level of this ones green . Cars no longer have any color to them .

The 1973-78 had an entirely new body. Not one piece of exterior sheet metal was shared with the 1969-72. It also changed to frameless side glass and had an completely new interior with very few parts carried over. The wheelbase was the same, but the frame was redesigned, primarily to handle impact absorption from the much larger bumpers.

I too would gravitate towards that wagon. I love the colors on it! But those awful, ugly fog lights on the front need to go; let alone let's not turn them on and focus on them.

DFRS - dual facing rear seats. My father purchased a 1972 Country Squire with a 400 cubic inch engine. My mother's Lincoln Continental Town Car with a 460 got much better gas mileage. In my opinion, these cars are far superior to what we see today. Team Trump USA 2024
