Description
Lot #1070 - In 1970 and 1971, all of the "Big Three" automakers were trying to grab buyers' attention with big cubic inches, massive horsepower and wild colors. This Grabber Lime Mach 1 checks all of those boxes. It is powered by a 429ci 8-cylinder J-code Ram Air SCJ engine backed by Ford's bulletproof C6 automatic transmission and nodular "N" case Traction-Lok rear end. This Mach 1 was sold new at Lewis Ford in Fayetteville, AR, and is optioned with power steering, sport deck rear seat, power disc brakes, AM radio and console. Upgrades include 15-inch Magnum wheels with radial tires and a rear deck spoiler. This Mach 1 has been in Northwest Arkansas and Oklahoma its entire life and has no signs of rust. The original black interior is still in great condition. When the car underwent a cosmetic and mechanical restoration the original matching-numbers engine block was not reused, but it is included with sale of the car. It still has the SCJ Holley carburetor, exhaust heat shield, original smog equipment, assembly line fan shroud, correct radiator and space saver spare tire. This was the last year of the big-block Mustang.

I had a 71 mach 1 SCJ when I was 19 ,mine was grabber green identical to this one but without the side strip that for 176,000 , it was odd mine had a clock instead of a tach which I later found out was a option ,I didn't order the car but saw it the first day the owner who did order it got it, a year later I was looking at 69 428's a came across my 429 SCJ sitting in the used lot at the same dealership it was ordered from (Stengers Ford Dayton OH.) got it for 5,000 1972 sold it for 600.00 in 82 "YDFC", The car was a beast on the streets of Dayton , had problems getting hooked up on the hole shot ,thanks for the trip down memory lane! like they say hind sight is 20/20 or $176,000

I know this was a big number for this car, interested to see if this sparks some of the other rare '71's like the Boss 351.

Very Beautiful Car, but just curious, why would they mount the rear spoiler in the wrong place ??? It should be closer to the back of the trunk lid ..........
@machone7580
@machone7580 3 месяца назад
They should have given the new owner a discount for a new trunk lid. They completely horsed up the correct location of the rear spoiler. 176k seems like a lot of loot for this to me. I own an authentic “J-Code” 71 Mach, would sell it for 176k in a friggin heartbeat!

My sister in law’s, sister still has the 1971 Mach 1 429 SCJ with a Paxton supercharger, that her late husband bought new. I don’t know if the supercharger was factory or not. Her husband passed about a year ago and she isn’t to the point of thinking if she will keep or sell the Mustang.

i bet he paid $50,000 or less back then for that 1971 429 and recieved $176,000 in 2021 unreal

Yes in this case it worked out and they did great. It happens sometimes but it's far from the norm. Same can be said if they put 50k in the stock market that same year what would it be worth today. Some cars are investments and they pay off, it's an opportunity cost like anything else.

Wow too bad this was missing the proper CJ-SCJ aluminum valve covers !? Nobody is reproducing the 429CJ valve covers and they are getting more & more difficult to find. Also you can bet it was a (bean counter thing )why Ford never had aluminum intake manifolds on either of there 428 or 429 CJ motors ! Didn't all SCJ's have oil coolers? That's usually how you tell CJ from SCJ at first glance.

This is NOT a factory SCJ! I know, you may think I'm full of it... but I'm 62 years old & bought a Boss 351 in 1979. Since then, I have studied and learned about these cars A LOT. My whole life. Why do I say it is not an original SCJ? No engine oil cooler. All SCJ's had an engine oil cooler mounted in front of the radiator on the left side. Can't believe this sold for 160K without the original valve covers. Come on! And, what the hell is up with the rear spoiler being mounted about five inches too far forward??? No offense to the owner, please understand, but this car is missing some precious parts. Can't believe it sold for what it did. I've owned two Boss 351's, a '71 Mach 1 351C 4-V, 4 speed w/ Ram Air, & even a little known model; a 1971 Sports Hardtop with a 351C 4-V, 4 speed, Ram Air, 3:25 Traction Lok. Super rare. The 71-73's are unique. You either love them or hate them. Also had a 1971 Torino GT, 429, Shaker, 4 speed, Laser Stripes...etc.
