What is your top speed and did you feel a noticeable difference in performance compared to the stock engine?

@@blas9520 I drove around 82mph on the 91 freeway in LA for a good clip. And yes, much peppier. Felt safer really. Regular servicing and tune ups are key.

@@lukedorny Damn thats fast for a vw bus. I just upgraded my stock 1600cc with dual carbs and exhaust. Kind of disappointed with performance (Although it runs great), only 52mph as a realistic cruising speed. Never tried the fully stock setup as i restored adding the upgrades and didnt run previously. Any advice for more top speed? (maybe gear ratios?)

@@blas9520 i completely redid the transmission and all new wheel bearings, etc., etc., and this all adds up to easier rolling. I definitely wouldn’t drive that fast all the time but you know Los Angeles. Sometimes that’s just keeping up!

its mandatory turn on lights in switzerland (other country in europe as well).

Hm intersting, but the owner told me its mandatory to turn lights on 😅

@@FreFa-ch i just googled it, its says before 1970 is not mandatory, since 1. january 1970 must light on, so this vw bus is 1971

@@TESTDRIVEFREAK Okay i checked it, and you're right. There are several sources stating '74 (40 years or older in the year (2014) lights became mandatory) is the limit, but in the legal text it says 1970. However, I wouldn't turn them on nonetheless as it helps preserving the cars electrical system, which was by the way designed before 1970 ;). And 40 CHF really isn't alot. I've been driving without lights for the last 7 years and haven't had to pay a single fine :) And my actual cars are 1989 and 2003. But yeah, im not critizising you, just telling you and others who read this comment that its not a good idea to use too much electricity in older cars :)

You can travel 70 or 80 mph but you will hear high engine rpm and sounds like it wont hold or last long. Best travel speed is 50-60 mph

When you hit a hill in these busses I remember you have to downshift, and there is not a lot of power. Speed of 60 is what I remember was the max. Also, I remember mom had to replace the engine three times in 90,000 miles on her 1971 Bus because the valves would get sucked into the crankcase.

I remember mother was getting 22 MPG for fuel economy on her VW busses. At the time the fuel economy was unbeatable on a van.
