Gotta love the miles and miles of vacuum hose under those hoods.

Actually in 72 there were very few vacuum hoses, it was around 78 it got real nuts like that.

This is when Ford built great cars that were beautiful looking and not have to rely on Japan for stupid chips.

@Amplass 333 Thats true but Ford needs to have there's built in the USA as well.

Where were you when they were trying to sell Crown Victorias and couldn't give them away? They only stopped making these U Boats fairly recently.

Wow, that 72’ LTD Coupe was sweet, I guess you could still get it with a 429. Good luck finding one.

My Dad had a '69 Thunderbird with a 429 V-8, 360 HP. Jeeez, that baby could move.

True. &3 was the last year for the 429 and severely de tuned to a watery 200 hp . 71 was the last year with the gross 360 hp, 480 ft lbs of torque

Back then my company would give us LTDs as company cars. This was in California and if single we would get crap about why we needed a gas guzzler.. Would say the company made us drive them.. They were nice road cars..

My girlfriend's step-dad had a brand new top of the line '72 LTD. That thing was built. Quiet as a bank vault. Smooth as silk. A very nice road car. I think it had a 351 V-8. Not sure what the horsepower was, since it was rated differently from the earlier model years. My neighbor had a '69 Mach One with a 351 Cleveland and I think it was rated at 290 HP. So I'm sure by '72 the 351 was detuned. Regardless, it was one fine running machine.

Those were nice cars. We had GM's in the 70's, but those LTD, Mercury's and Lincolns were great cars, solid and well made, reliable. I do miss the cars of the past, today is awful!

Back in 1972 Ford & Chevrolet would compare the Torino & Chevelle. I knew 2 of my neighbors who bought the lowest of each. The Chevelle looked nice, but,the Torino had a totally different front end compared to the Gran Torino. Both my neighbors ofcourse got V8s. Ford 302 2V 3spd auto. Chevy had the 307 2bbl with a 2spd powerglide. It was fun washing em & l8r my bro & I would take em to deserted roads. U can guess which 1 WON. GR8 OLD DAYS. By the time my brother & I got home nonchalant my dad would be ready for the 1st & 2nd place winner. He knew we did the same with his new Riviera GS. Neighbors yada yada.

"The way big cars do..." that sentence alone is one of the funniest lines in these commercials, I know the torino is supposed to be a mid size sportier car than the full size aircraft carriers such as the ltd but come on...😂😂

Ford today is a shadow of its former self, and that's a shame.

Because they didn't used to make junk. To quote an old Ford commercial "Have you driven a Ford lately?"

I had a 73 Torino that my Dad bought for me used in 1980 when I got my license. I think he paid around $600.00 for it. I drove that car for 8 years. It would not die. I finally gave it away just because I was sick of looking at it. It is the only Ford I ever owned that wasn't a total POS.

Interesting how the Ford LTD Brougham is compared to a 1972 Cadillac Deville rather than a 1972 Lincoln Continental.

As it should be. Would be counter-productive to say "this car is as good as our Lincolns....please don't buy our more profitable car!"
