Coming across this video brought me back in time. I worked with Oliver and his dad out of that shop when I was younger. I learned so much from those two. Yes... cleaning and lubricating threads included. 😂

Oliver and I share the same passion for the wire wheel. The leaf spring bolt shank has nothing to do with anything... yet we'll clean it up just like the threads. (On drum brakes... I'll wire wheel the star wheel adjusters, the end caps, the levers, the pins. Co-workers used to laugh... "You gonna gold plate that thing?"). I think that little extra effort makes a difference if you ever want to service the parts in the future.

We are the masters of the wire wheel. You can always tell if a person knows his way around bench grinder when he doesn't chuck parts across the shop or doesn't take a few millimeters of skin off.

In 1983 I stuck a 1982 Oldsmobile DX block in a 55 Chevy Belair, it was a new take out because dealers couldn’t dell them because of bad problems with previous model years., and was converting them back to gas. Had a turbo 400 trans and 323 rear gears. I got 22 MPG with it and was super cool.

One trick that we did to make them hook harder was relocate the front leaf spring bolts up higher. This added anti-squat to the rear suspension (and lowered the car for better handling). The reason that GM didn't do it was because more anti-squat would lead to increased warranty costs if the car actually hooked. You're limited by the bracket on how much you can raise the bolt and raising it higher required cutting and welding two brackets or fabbing everything up with some flat stock.
@foreignautomobiles
@foreignautomobiles 2 года назад
Dang. That's a good idea! We are trying to get the car to 'stage 1' . Then we can baseline it and then make changes to get quantitative data.

I've seen slotting and redrilling the front mounts, but any decent change in the mounting point takes some work

While you're under there spray the entire underside of the car with transmission fluid, it absorbs into the rust and makes everything look pretty good too.

While trying to remove my front spring mount the welded nut on the inside broke loose and now the bolt just spins and won’t come out. How do I fix this?

Hey Rich, I’m putt the LS9 in my sons 2013 Zl1 thanks to his lead foot. 🥵 can you tell me what the 4 tubes are for on the top corners of the heads which might be steam holes that need to be plumbed into the cooling system. Can I just plug them or do they plumbed? Thank You , love your videos and live shows 👍🔧🔧⚙️⚙️😎

@@richardholdener1727 thank you for the reply Richard, I have learned a lot from you in the past two weeks that I’ve been watching your channel. I’m the one putting a new ls9 long block in my sons 2013 Zl1 that he stuck two rods through the block of the lsa . Everything from the lsa fits including the new lsa supercharger fits perfect except for the crank pulley alining up with the AC compressor. After three days of searching and calling, I got ahold of JC, the owner of ATI dampers, he had his people make me one just for this application ,shipped it Friday and I’ll have it Tuesday. Now all I need to figure out what size AC belt I need and where to get it. Any ideas ? I apologize for the paragraph but I’m 72 and I find it taking paragraphs to say things now that I use to say in a sentence. Sorry. 😎 Thank You, “ Batman”

Hey Richard, have you ever be able to play around with VVT on some gen 4 or gen 5 motors? It would be interesting to see a series on just how VVT works and how it can make power or when it's better to delete it because I feel like there's alot of misunderstanding around it and people are scared of it, I saw a video of a cammed L83 with a stage 3 VVT truck cam and it made over 100rwhp and that blows my mind on why people would delete VVT

If you were in the midwest you would start like you did and immediately switch to the blue wrench and order new hardware. Actually you would have ordered the new hardware expecting to replace it and take it back if you actually got lucky. The rust you guys had was superficial. Is there any reason you went with a rubber vs polyurethane bushing?

ALL power is transferred through only two points on a leaf spring car: The front bushings! They need to be solid on a high torque vehicle.

Wow... Truly you guys, if that car was from northern Michigan you would have been replacing all those bolts because, if there were even enough of the bolts left to get a socket onto, they would have just broken off because of all the rust.

Is it possible to have a reliable 800hp 5.3 lm7 With just heads throttle body forged rods and a turbo or would i need to bore it out and add sleeves ect or would those simple things be fine Also are there piston rings that are same size as stock but stronger if so can someone put me on.

yes you can have turbo 5.3l at 800 hp and not need internals-you do need ring gap
