1972 OLYMPICS - Lyudmila Turishcheva ALL-AROUND CHAMPION 

The great Soviet Lyudmila Turishcheva won three consecutive Major AA titles--two World Titles with an Olympic gold sandwiched in between. Her steadiness and nerves of steel served her well.
Here in at the 1972 Games in Munich, she was able to be consistent throughout the competition, while teammate and daredevil compatriot Olga Korbut faltered on bars--scoring only a 7.500 and finishing 7th. The title would have easily gone to Korbut had she duplicated her bars performance from Optionals or Finals.
Instead the podium consisted of Lyudmila Turishcheva 🥇 Karin Janz 🥈 and the late overlooked 1971 European co-champion Tamara Lazakovich 🥉.
