I love BSR changers! I know a lot of people hate them, but they simple and reliable and with just a little maintenance they last forever. True, most of them have a really crummy ceramic cartridge in them, but upgrading to a better ceramic, or even a magnetic cartridge, goes a long way. The biggest complaints are regarding tracking pressure and platter speed. Most of the earlier units had adjustments for tracking pressure and could be adjusted to successfully track at about 5 grams - which, despite what many might tell you, is NOT excessive. Of course, with a magnetic, you can track lighter - I have mine adjusted to track at just under 3 grams. Later units, of course, often lacked these adjustments and you were pretty much stuck with it unless you modified the unit. Platter speed often runs slightly high, and there's no real easy fix I'm aware of. Of course, today, I use mine to digitize music from old records, and I can adjust it in software.

The best thing about them is the easy to maintain and reliable changer mechanism. Plus 45rpm changer adapters and changer spindles are inexpensive and readily available. If you want a record changer that works well and anybody with some patience can get working, a BSR is the way to go.

I found an easy fix for the speed! Adjust the idler wheel screw counter clockwise until it is raised, so about only half of the wheel's width is touching each step.

I grew up on this turntable. Loved to volunteer to flip records when family was over as a kid. Never had to use it... But the original stylus you could flip over 180 degrees to play 78 records. Thought that was neat- but we were not that old in the 70's, lol. Just don't get caught A/B sound testing the difference in sound with the two needles on Dad's Beatles albums. He can tell your f'n up the groves from the next room over.

Hello and thanks for the great video! Do you by chance have an owner's manual for this particular model or know where one might be obtained? I have scoured the Internet to no avail! Thanks!

I have one of these. Haven't upgraded the cartridge, mainly because everything I've heard til now suggests that BSR sourced turntables tend to be crummy. With the original ceramic cartridge installed, the sound is flat and lacks any bass. At least in this video, it seems to be the same as what I've heard of mine, despite the cartridge changeout. Do you have a hum when you're not playing records? Apparently, this turntable was not designed with magnetic carts in mind and as a result, the cart tends to pick up interference from the motor.

Lendorien wasn’t using a preamp, used phone’s input.

I was watching to see how he grounded the magnetic cartridge. I wasted my time. I suppose that you could pop a bolt into any hole on the underside of the motor board and attach the other wire end to the ground of your amp, but IDK.

Lendorien the chassis has mounting holes for a 4-pole motor, as all BSR chassis have the mounting holes for both types of motors. The exception are the minichangers, the C154 and the C154R/R1

Mine is missing the tonearm cue lifter... any help finding a replacement? We’re taking it back in from where we bought it (only 35 bucks) to be repaired because I turned an adjustment screw and the whole tonearm fell off... won’t set down the needle in the right place either. it’s a Sanyo with the same BSR table (no silver platter though, four speeds)

How did you mount the AT3600 cartridge? The AT3600 has a two screw mounting pattern and the Panasonic Turntable arm only has 1 centered hole?

Mike Sanders BSR’s own single screw to ½” adapter.

And, of course, there is always super glue.

Hi, I just bought one of these at a yard sale and have a really dumb question. How does it get hooked up to an amplifier. It only has a power cable plus another power outlet in the back. Could you possible explain how you have this hooked up to actually hear music. I connected the speaker wires -but no sound. You must have to connect this turntable to an Amp or a receiver correct?? But how? Thanks so much
@ct1660
@ct1660 3 года назад
Has to be connected to an amp with a phono input (specifically a ceramic cart input)

When looking at the back face the cord coming out of bottom right side is the 120v power cable and the cable coming from the bottom left side is L and R audio signal to be connected to amplifier (RCA original) each channel, left or right, will have 2 individual wires plug these into a single audio input (black/red or +/-) on your standard receiver/amplifier, these are just low power audio signals with no amplification so hooking them up to speakers directly will not power them enough to hear anything. keep in mind the female outlet on the back of unit right side is an “Outlet for appliance, 600w max”. A power cable for additional equipment plugs into here, but do not apply power here.

Don't know if you are still looking but if you take the bottom off there should be left and right RCA hookups inside under the platter.

Do you know how to fix the arm if it slides to the center once it starts to play?

Xaenon...BSR changers are crummy. The have a two pole motor with a tiny idler wheel. They are excessively noisy and the platter speed is inaccurate. A 5 gram tracking weight IS very excessive. Modern turntables track at about 2 gms. In fact. 5 gms was excessive even in 1972. Most decent turntables and record changers tracked at around 3-4 gms.

EF ANDMK not all of them. All BSR chassis starting with the MA-65/UA-65 up until the C212 have mounting holes for both 2-pole and 4-pole motors. As for the speed issue, sanding down the pulley fixes this. It wasn’t uncommon for a BSR thats equipped with a magnetic cartridge to use a Shure, Pickering, or even an ADC magnetic cartridge. I have an MA-65, C141R1 and C185 with a Shure M75CS, a McDonald 610 (C131R) with a Shure M93E “Hi-Track”. The M93 tracks at 1.75g, while the M75CS ones track at 2g. The C129, the C154 and the C197/198 Tetrad variant were the crummy ones.

@@ct1660 Instead of sanding motor pulley: Adjust the idler wheel screw counter clockwise until it is raised, so about only half of the wheel's width is touching each step. You should try to find a replacement motor now, as the grinding can introduce suddle wow/flutter.
