Love it, Chocolate brown. My dad had 3 of them when I was a kid. Did many miles touring the Highlands of Scotland in them. Never had a mechanical problem with them.

Many, many years ago I owned a total of three of these over a period of several years, two SCs and one TC and thought they were beautiful cars both to look at and to drive. I really likid the short remote gear shit on them.

When a Rover was a Rover.Lovely stuff.It makes you realise just how radical the sd1 was when it came out by comparrison

I worked in sales for a BL main dealer during the 70's. I was told that before the SD1 was introduced it was shown with the badges covered to a group of people and they were asked what make did they think that the car was. Various answers were given but nobody guessed that it was a Rover.

@@levelcrossing150 Thats a great comment thanks.I loved the sd1 and briefly owned one in 1990.You say were were a main dealer.One thing I still remember was the smell of brand new cars in the 1970,s that has gone now.It must have been the fresh celly paint used then.You could smell a brand new car just walking past one in the street.

@@glennpowell3444 I was told that on a weeks sales course at the Leyland Marketing Centre in Studley, Warwickshire. Yes a main dealer in North Wales and we distributed cars to the smaller dealers too. Deep down I was a Ford man but I had a genuine affection and enthusiasm for the Leyland Cars. They had some real stick off the public and media during the 70's which we knew was not all true. We had a great, friendly team and tried our best to make up for that. Our group accountant had a SD1 demonstrator and it was brought up from head office for us all to try out. It stood out as a lovely car, was a nice driving experience and it was well ahead of it's time. Yes I remember the lovely smell too, probably from the paint, carpets and upholstery. They were very exciting times for us with a great and promising product to sell. We had a sectioned, cut out shell from Leyland Cars displayed in our showroom for a number of weeks to show how it was built. Great days, I was so saddened when it all ended.

@@levelcrossing150 Hiya.Yes I was like my dad a Ford man at heart back then but liked the BL range at the time.They were everwhere .The Princess I thought was a good looker.Also the triumphs and the faithfull MGbts.Maybe we are getting nostalgic but pretty well every car now to me looks the same.I could tell the make and model of cars at a glance.Yes they dont rot anymore and dont have carb and ignition issues etc but far more interesting and more the point easy to work on.I must admit it was a sad day when Longbridge closed in I think 2005?.So many cars passed through there.

Like many old classics far to many are full of filler and back yard repaints. This colour combination is spot on brown with tobacco interior. This is a nice spec with the headrests etc. I remember even automatics had a manual choke. A neighbour bought one brand new. It was delivered to his home and he couldn't start it. I cleaned the plugs and took him around the block in it and showed him how to drive it. He had part exchanged his Mk 2 Daimler to buy it.

I had a 2200 TC racing green in the 70’s. Always had problems with the gear selector. Lots of rust but still loved it.

First car I ever bought and boy was i green at that time. Great to drive but unknown to me, full of rot on the rear wings just behind the doors. Also the aluminium in the engine (block/head) was eaten away by someone (not me) putting in the wrong anti freeze. Good fun while it lasted, but a short lived experience.

I have had so many of these cars. Didn't drive anything else for years. Very heavy on the steering. Used to have a "reserve" petrol tank if I remember. My son had a 3500 v8 stolen, from outside a police station.

As I remember, the sc with the square spedometer is much earlier than 1972. My estimate would be from 1963. Any specialits who can spread some light on this?
@paulbarnett7140
@paulbarnett7140 2 года назад
All series One, and post 70 series 2 SC models, 2000, 2200 and Auto got the square speedo. Series 2 cars, black plastic grille etc, had circular Dials on the TC and 3500/3500 S models. There was a US spec V8 'S' Auto, that used the circular dials pre series 2, as well.

Im one year older then this car. I was born in 1971. And I remember when I was growing up I would see many British cars on our streets. My Dad drove a British car. We made good cars. But British leyland, should of stuck with just making lorries and buses, they were the best at that, and should of stayed away from buying up British car brands, merging them altogether. The politics, mismanagement between the production line workers and the men in suits. Cutting corners to save money. The triumph stag was a perfect example of that, using a shoddy engine, instead of the original V8 conceived on the drawing board. Britain made some mistakes, but I’m hoping the British ‘independent’ car industry will be resurrected again, but this time with electric vehicles. The U.K. still has the talent and the ingenuity, but needs the political will and the investment to make it happen.
@bradleycruse2763

Wasn't the stag's downfall that it didn't use the rover V8, and they insisted on their own engine?

Not properly udjusted parts. I see it is difficult to get some of the parts and rust on parts that are difficult to get. No engine noise is how they are supposed to be. could do with overdrive. I was thinking of getting one because they are good cars, but the replacement aspect for parts is putting me off.

With all due respect, you really need to update the quality of the iPhone etc film quality when you review a car. Many of your film reviews, everything is hazy/soft focussed etc. like the Rover 2000 SC for example. Have you ever looked back of what you have done prior to uploading the review in respect to other sellers re quality of film ie 'pin sharp'?
