Sometimes to judge whether the wax pack is authentic, you have to taste the pack. It usually tastes like asbestos, lead, mustard and Grandma's basement. It has to have an even ratio of all four flavours at 25% grade.
So far, the cards have been nicer than the pack grade/condition from all the vintage packs I've opened. The only caveat is if the centering sometimes is all off/miscut on the cards or if there is a dinged corner on the pack (then ALL the cards will be dinged) so got to watch out for that.
If you only knew how many of those packs I ripped open of those exact pac's Legend. Boxes & Boxes every week. As many as I could get my grubby hands on. Would even collect pop bottles and return them for cards. LOL The last series was impossible to get with Garvey, Carew & Ryan here in the Valley. I remember having 22 Fisk rookies and a zillion in action cards.
Wow brother, I can't even begin to image how awesome that must have been to rip into so many 1972s! Of course, at the time it's hard to know that the set would become such an iconic and high-demand set or that the pack would sky-rocket in value. Crazy crazy world man. Happy to hear that you ripped through so many of these packs bro. Just imaging that is so nostalgic. Appreciate you sharing!
I've been looking into grading some of my baseball Score 1991 packs for some time now. But, what I really want to grade is the box that the baseball Score 1991 complete set came in. Do you think PSA can supply a large enough case to grade a complete set of baseball cards box?
So PSA can’t identify altered cards, can’t consistently grade cards ( hence the resubmits), can’t come remotely close to the turn around times we pay for.... yet they are raising rates? 😂😂😂😂 No thanks!!! Neat pack break!! Looks like the pack grade didn’t correlate with the card conditions
You are RIGHT!!! PSA is just out of their minds man. Thanks brother. Glad you watched the break. Are you saying the cards looked nicer than the pack grade?
Great video. Nice Brooks Robinson World Series card. You already know how I feel about 72 topps. Very nice! Really enjoyed the video thanks for sharing.
I appreciate you joying the channel Jim. Thank you very much and please feel free to always give me your suggestions on how I can do things better for you or there's something you want to see on my channel. Thank you again!!!
Hi Eric, yes I would think so. Please feel free to share the video/channel if you know anyone else who would enjoy it. I appreciate you watching and commenting!!!
Wow.... I just went down to my local card shop, went through about 2 rows of stacks of cards in top loaders..... Found a '72 Fisk rookie (!) The condition is amazing, at least the centering and corners (i'm not about to remove to check the surface anytime soon). Sure i may have paid a tad more than the book value (I paid $54.50), but it's a Fisk rookie nonetheless. There are about 10 more rows, but i had to save SOME money lol. Who knows what's under there.....
@@LACollection All raw. Trying to get as near mint as possible. Won't be perfectly centered since 1972 is notorious for not being well centered. No creases on any and all corners are solid on them.
@@LACollection 454, 465, 615,629,646,661,671,680,686,689, 694,697,699,700,753,760,764, 768,782,784 Going to local card show next month. Spoke to dealer who might have most of these.
Bobbi, ALL the vintage card packs had gum in it (they were NOT card companies that included gum, they were gum/candy companies that included cards) From 1949-1989 there was gum in the pack and before that there was Candy, Caramels, Tobacco, gum, ice cream, etc, etc etc.
LA Collection I did not know that lol. But still Wouldnt you want to pull that gum out before grading so it didn’t ruin the cards? I dislike that gum in there 😇
@@bobbicatalano Yes of course it ruined the card but the card is ruined either way. Also, I would never get a card like that graded. It is not worth it. Any other questions regarding older cards/grading/etc.?
LA Collection no I was just spouting off about the gum because I opened a box of 88 topps and the gum really annoyed me lol. Thanks for all the info Much appreciated !!
How the heck do wax PACKS get graded? How clean or dirty, worn, wrapped, or centered they are? Great video! I love 70's cards. Never mind, you explained some of it after I wrote this :)
Hey Robert! I love 70's cards too. Will be breaking a few packs of 1977 topps and 1979 OPC baseball pretty soon. (watch our for that video and other breaks coming soon) Thank you for watching and commenting!
