Now that we are done with the wiring let's look at the rest of the car. We already fixed some issues with the suspension, but we still need to replace some bushings and ball joints. The engine also needs attention, so let's service the carbs, replace the manifold gasket, water pump and some other components.

Great informative video Elin, thank you! Your customers should be overjoyed to be able to watch 'over your shoulder' as you do the work on their vehicle; it becomes a permanent record of the great work you do for them. I hope no customer complains about the cost to repair to you since they can 'see' all the conscientious effort you put into the job!

Like you Elin, I thought that cylinder head was cracked ! Can't recall during my years of working in the motor trade seeing a manifold gasket come off in so many pieces ! The car is starting to remind me of the Johnny Cash song "One Piece At a Time" as it it seems to have parts from 1970-71-72-73 😂.. Great work and video as always .. Looking forward to seeing it tuned up and made ready to rock.

That is a real "Franken-car" made from various different model years. If that is supposed to be a 1972 or 1973 model, it has the wrong front bumper on it. That's a model year 1974-75 front bumper with the big black rubber battering rams on it.

I can't imagine how those studs can hold with such short threaded sections! Thanks so much for the very informative and entertaining video! We appreciate it.

Agreed, far to short for the work they have to do..

Great video! The carb refresh gives me courage to tackle my own GT6 carbs. That was a very good explanation of the Patreon payment. I wish I was close by where you live.

all British (home market) cars have the wide port heads, the American cars were changed over in 72/73 to narrow port heads due to increasingly stringent emission regulations.

Engines mounts, you have the mounts with the gap in the middle of the rubber, those are wrong, you need the type with the solid rubber centre

Dang, I sure wish I lived closer so that I could book you for some work and advice. I love the way you figure things out and engineer a cheap solution at times.

Those studs were very strange on the exhaust manifold of course so was the gasket...very different than I have ever seen. Carbs look good now. Thanks for the video.

The throttle shaft seals are assembled in the reverse to a normal seal. So that when the vacuum acts upon it the seal, it draws the lip against the shaft. In an engine the crankcase pressure is positive, So seals go in the conventional way. If you fit them in a carburettor the conventional way they let air in. 🥴

My TR8 carbs need new seals on the needles. Now I know how to do it. Thanks for showing that.

Hey Elin, love your videos. I wouldn't tackle half of the work on my 76 TR without your video guidance. Just a few questions. I'm taking on front suspension and would like to know how long your spring compressor bolt is and does it need to be fine thread? One more, do I have to totally remove steering rack to change out the mount bushings. Thanks very much. Doug G...

It is 18” of 3/4” threaded rod. It doesn’t really matter the thread pitch. Mine is corse but it might be fine too. You can change the mounts on the rack without removing it.

Hi Elin, yet another great video, don't know how you have the time to do it. Ive always wondered why triumph bothered with stromburgs when the SU's were far simpler and did exactly the same job ??? must be a reason as the stromburgs must of been more expensive ? They certainly were not better for emissions than SU's. P.S. when are you getting back to the GT6, really missed that one, can't wait for you paint it in colour (please do it yourself that would make a great series ;)
@neilrogers8931
@neilrogers8931 Год назад
Stromburgs are better at meeting emission standards than SUs and that is why they were use on North American cars. The diaphragm provides more accurate needle positioning than the machined piston clearance of an SU. As long as the diaphragm is in good condition it won't leak vacuum. As the piston is an SU wears, it can leak vacuum which can affect the height of the piston and thus the air fuel mixture.

They were drunk when they manufactured these cars. They mixed every year with others.

The factory workers didn't give damn and were only looking forward to their next tea time break. They installed whatever parts were sitting there on the shelves when these cars went down the assembly lines and left it to the dealership network to sort things out. the factory managers were only interested in daily production, not quality. Bonuses were paid for production numbers, not quality control.

Thank you for your Patron explanation, and how your are not really paid for the filming and editing. As a former video editor I think a lot of people don't understand how much time it takes to set up camera shots and then edit all the footage together to make a coherent and entertaining story.
