My dad had a brand new '73 Maverick same color - but bucket seats and a vinyl top. As a kid sitting in the back those pop out windows merely teased you with the thought of fresh air.
We had a Ford Maverick Grabber when I was younger. It was a sky blue with gold on the bottom. I learned to drive in that car, I loved it. What stood out to me was it had 2 round reflectors on the back by the taillights that had smiley faces on them. Lol Definitely different. 🤗
This is exactly how I would have built it myself. Always wanted a late model 5.0 efi engine in a Maverick! Then later on I would install a 347 stroker kit!
The Maverick was a horribly underrated car by Ford and scoffed at as an afterthought owned by folks on a budget. A neighbor of ours owned a 1970-1973 model with a 3 on the tree shifter. I always wondered why he drove with it in park when coming home and left it in drive when it was parked at home. 😂
I had a 67 cougar that I bought thst was a GT with a big block 390 with a 4 speed ! It had the same rims & I painted the spokes the same color as the body color which was a bright red. I had never owned a ford before ( I was into chevrolet chevelle's & Nova's) . All my friends hated the car until I painted the spokes & they said it made the car ! Two weeks later word got back to the ford dealership & the owner himself wanted to buy it. I only paid a thousand dollars for it & he offered me $5,000 but I said I would think about it & he said his top offer was $6,000 so I accepted it & he had me drive it to the dealership with him so he could pay me in cash ! ( He couldn't drive a standard) A couple of days later he found out how much I bought it for & he wasn't too happy about that ! He said I swindled him ! The vehicle is worth about $65,000 now !
I miss my 72 Maverick. 351 w / 5 speed tremec transmission, 9" rear diff , power lok LS . Very fast car but I was hit broadside by a drunk in a Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup. Lucky I lived but the Maverick wasn't as lucky
There was also a GT Comet in the 70 s with the 302 v8 in the 60s they put 427 cubic inch V8 s in the !964 comet like i say 1964 was the best year for thous cars best looking lots of crome
Computer controlled was in its infancy, and this model only made 165 hp. In fact, it gave enthusiasts a bad taste it came to . They feared it would be impossible to make performance modifications. The 1984 CFI models are the very first to come with an electronic engine management system.Apr 30, 2015
Do you still have this car? I just picked up at 74 and ironically enough I’m about 3 miles away from you. I saw you were off of Ashland and 168 area. I promise I’m not stalking LOL. I would love to take a look at your car if you would allow it. That color is the exact color I was thinking of painting mine
Bosch eliminated that need in 1967 when it introduced what would become the first successful mass-produced electronic system for gasoline engines. It first appeared on the 1967 Volkswagen 1600. The technology replaced mechanical systems
