A CLASSIC 1973 Porsche 914 has been given a “new life” after its owner ditched the fuel tank to go electric. Despite being one of the manufacturer’s least popular models, Mark Bush spent two years converting his Porsche, swapping out its engine and fuel tank for a HPEVS motor and 126v battery.

That's a gorgeous car! I sure miss my 914. I had one from 2005 until 2007. I lived on the big island when I had it. Now I'm on Maui but I want another one and I also want to do an electric conversion

A conversion kit with battery will run you around $20k, and you'll only get 100-130 miles of range. And it's not just the battery that's pricey, an electric motor with decent power will set you back $5,000 to $9,000. Maybe 10 years from now battery tech will have much higher energy density, and you'll be able to get electric motors off of old electric cars, then EV conversions will be more affordable.

I can understand why you'd feel this way, but let's be honest - These cars were mass produced and despite most 914s having rusted away it's not like there aren't still loads of them available...
