@@ljbrizo My 440 hurts all 327 feelings and even 427..454..Even new 6.2 Camaro,Corvette's,5.0 Mustangs,302,351,427,428,429,460 etc...It runs low 10's in the 1/4 looking stock,runs 11.17 right now because of reproduction bias ply tires with brand new tread,they spin like crazy,one I wear them down they hook better.

340 ate lots of GM&Ford cars..they would only beat another Mopar if the driver was sleeping or his car was running on 6 of the 8 cyl! or a 340 Dart with 4.56 gears raced a 1970 Charger RT S.E with a full tank of gas and 2.76 axle ratio and one wheel peel,dont ask me how I know..Okay you beat it out of me I will tell you..my buddy had a 340 Dart and I the Charger with a 2.94 my 3.54 Dana blew sky high and spare parts at the wreckers only had 8 3/4 with 2.76 from a Satellite! Dont worry it went back to the Dana once I had money to build it,it was winter anyways,lots of rain.I still beat 396 Chevelle's and Ford anything!

I had a 72 Cutlass"S" with a 350 2bbl and headers, Turbo 350 Transmission. Nice car, However now at 56, I wish I would have known more about the Mopar world in my youth Tony. This is my favorite car ! Such a mint body style "John"

I wouldn’t touch a 71-74 B-body. The B-bodies I’ve built and owned have all been 66-69; 68-69 Chargers, 67 GTX, 69 Road Runner, a 68 Barracuda FB, 71 and 72 Scamp, and a dozen 67-72 Darts

Only 17? Those are rookie numbers. I do agree a bunch of cold starts would be entertaining.

Lol I grew up mid 60’s to early 80’s and never once did you ever hear this cold start. It’s gotta be some kids RU-vid stuff they started for views I guess but it’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen, lol

@@trenttipton3876 yeah a P&W 2800 cold starting is a thing of awesomeness. An Alison cranking up is less impressive than a big radial, but still cool.. I'd kill someone to get my very own P40E or N.

Pretty aerodynamic body. As the later Gas Crisis cars aged, a hot cam in a 120,000 mile engine and 2.73 (or taller) gears had some outrageous top ends. Plenty of stories.

Correct me if I’m wrong was the 400 the biggest engine you could get for that year, or could you still get the 440.

And, you could always get home if you broke down. With only a few hand tools in the trunk my 1970 Plymouth 440's never left me on the side of the road...well...one time in college I ran out of gas as the gas gauge decided to quit working and I had to walk to a station but that was the only time and still didn't need to be towed.

Yes, the smells........but I like the way ya feel the motor even more. And it doesn't need to be "a power/torque monster".........just a nice, stout pull. There really is an overall "organic" experience with the classics vs these tight, sterile feeling new cars. I owned quite a few classics back in the day. But honestly, I think I miss my '66 Chevy fleet-side short wheel-base full custom cab PU truck with a hot 327 ( that replaced the original 283 ) more than anything. The truck was totally rebuilt when I bought it. I'm still kicking myself for selling it yrs ago......

Why didn't roadrunners have bucket seats?

@@larrybrinley8222 Bucket seats & a console-shift auto were available as options, but for purity of purpose, the original concept was to take the lightest, simplest setup - bench seat, column shift (or stick on the floor with no console), rubber floor mat - and throw the performance drivetrain & suspension in it. Like a two door cop car or taxi cab in terms of being brutally basic. Besides being light and simple to work on, keeping the fancy stuff to a minimum made it affordable (introduced at under 3 grand in ‘68) and a muscle car for everyman. Same idea caught on about 20 years later with the Mustang LX 5.0 - no frills, just the good stuff for around 10 grand.

I was talking to a friend about Novas just today. 2 door, 69-74 hard top Novas. Used to be you couldn't throw a dead cat without hitting one. They were everywhere. But nowadays u hardly see one. And when you do It's a clapped out 4 door. And Dusters.. Was at least one on every block.. I miss those days

How about the Charles Pougue carburetor. Do you remember that. The real reason why they added lead to the gasoline a long time ago was because it made the Charles Pougue carburetor not work properly. Now with all the camshaft advance and overlap you can't even use one if you had one. But the Charles Pougue carburetor would make the engine run on gasoline fumes and the fuel mileage was astronomical. 150 mph was probably an average. But you couldn't use a camshaft with overlap. No overlap period. And ignition timing could not be advanced either. It meant way less power and speed but the fuel mileage was unreal. Read about it

@@popwarner8029 Tetraethyl lead was added as an octane booster, because gasoline on its own has a really crappy resistance to spark knock/ping. Then they tried MTBE and it kills people whereas TEL caused neurological damage, it is lead after all. I wonder why there is such a massive number of Alzheimer's... now they use ethanol as an octane booster, and since the oil companies don't make the stuff they hate it and spread propaganda about it. I run ethanol straight and E85 on long trips or when I don't run my stills like the last few years. Been working on the vapor fuel thing Smokey Yunick did with the Fiero in the 80s, and since ethanol boils at 173F at sea level and not 450F like some parts of gasoline, its much easier to achieve the same effect. Mine is simple, I heat the fuel in the EFI rails to 200F rather than running it through a bunch of pre chambers and using special parts because of the heat required. The problem with gasoline is more than 80% of its energy goes to waste heat, ethanol only loses 58% of its energy to waste heat. You can't get around that, because of how gasoline burns and doesn't like to vaporize. Some parts of gasoline vaporize easily, at room temp even, but its more than just one chemical compound and its various components have boiling points ranging from 80F to 450F, and the flash points are all over the place too. That is why its so very prone to pre ignition and knock, because parts of it vaporize then ignite too soon with just heat and compression. The quickest and easiest way to increase mileage is to increase compression, work the fuel harder. Gasoline has the problem of knock/ping to deal with, as it sucks in that area without chemical help. Direct injection is a band aid to limit the amount of time the fuel is in the engine before its ignited, that allows them to raise compression ratios slightly. With ethanol you can easily run 22:1 compression, with iron heads, and running it hot too. The gasoline in E85 holds it back, but 16:1 is doable with E85 in a daily driver. Between 12:1 and 13:1 is the crossover point where ethanol starts getting better mileage than gasoline. Problem is you can't go dual fuel with 13:1, so you need to run a static ratio that gasoline can handle, which means you will get a lot worse mileage on ethanol. So even if Pougue got really high mileage, which is also claimed by the Fish carb, the loss of power is a large detriment. Getting around the really poor vaporization of gasoline and its inability to handle high compression and heat, is why gasoline engines are limited in mileage.

Kids these days also have access to stuff that's easily 500 hp, and easily can get 20+ mpg

A few videos back Richard Holdner had a guy with a distributor powered LS engine. He told how he did it.

You got to make a custom limb that attaches to the clutch. That way you always know where that left limb is at.

Eh... it happens... When you have 5 or more vehicles and you get in one that you haven't driven in a while, it takes a little bit to get the feel back.

I just bought one. Someone was in the process of converting it over to roadrunner. They did alot of great work on it but never finished... My wife almost left me over my purchasing this car.... Funny thing is that the license plate holder says happiness is being single.... LOL 😆

I had one in a ‘70 dart swinger just like the orange one he started the video by - man that thing was no slouch I could take the 440’s off the line, they hated to see me show up to race in that thing

Best year for the 340. I put one, after working it from a bare block, into a '73 Charger. It held its own against similar size cars with bigger engines.

@@mikesmith6724 -- oh, yeah! That would be a GREAT build to follow. I never had mine on a dyno, but it had to be making 400+ hp. I had to put really wide tires on the back because even with a tall rear gear it would easily spin the stock size tires.

@Can am Dennis if I were you I would clear my schedule for the next couple of days . The amount of knowledge UTG puts out on this channel is mind blowing . I have been watching Tony’s videos about year and half now and have learned more about the mechanics of Mopar engines drivetrains than I ever thought possible just by watching these videos . The way Tony gets the most performance out of whatever he may be working on is second to none . He is like the Yoda of anything that runs on gasoline.

and if they were forged pistons.... i would not worry . but hypers like to shatter.....
