@@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648 Thanks , I also remember collecting the 68 cards with my brother but not the whole set. Funny because many times we would buy the packs at a Seven Eleven or a drug store. I remember that set had mini posters of certain big name players like Gale Sayers and Joe Namath and some you could make puzzles with the backs of the cards.

@@cheaplaughkennedy2318 1968 Topps is another great set. The Raiders and Packers cards had a puzzle on the back. They were the Super Bowl teams the year before.

What an awesome collection of the 73 set you have! They are beautiful cards and I love the design. The baseball card design from that year is one of my favorites as well. I had never heard that story about Jim Brown and Franco Harris before. Great stuff as always Terry!

Thanks David. The 73 sets all have a great design. The baseball, basketball and football are very similar, but the hockey is different. Not so much the photography, but the colored borders. I found the Jim Brown and Harris story so interesting that I wanted to share it. Thanks for the feedback. I hope all is well with you. Take care, Terry

Johnny U doesn’t look right without the crew cut! 😀 I’ve always liked the Larry Csonka card! All are great. Thanks for sharing
@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648 3 года назад
The crew cut is synonymous with Unitas. He must have grown out his hair in 71 because his 72 is the first with longer hair. That 73 Csonka definitely capture who he was. He ran with raw power! I love that he once get a penalty for unnecessary roughness as a running back. How cool is that?

Great collection terry. Love # 10 Fran the Man. He invented the scramble, you to love watching him run around, everyone trying to kill him and him making plays. And I like Mr Olsen. Very underrated player. You have lots of greats !!

I agree that the Tarkenton is a beauty. He was definitely a lot of fun to watch run, but he was also such a great passing QB. He retired as the passing yards leader which is impressive.

The Franco Harris card always cracks me up when I see it with his stocking cap LOL! I didn't know Jim Brown was so jealous of the success Franco was having back then... I guess his competitive juice's were still flowing! Thanks for sharing more of your fantastic collection Terry!! Enjoyed it :)

I agree on the Franco. Haha. Some of the late 60s through the 70s cards have some interesting pictures to say the least. To me, that is the charm of them. The 50s cards are definitely more artistic and elegant looking, but so were a lot of things from that era. Just compare the cars to those of the 70s.

Hello Terry , thanks you for sharing. Great video about some great cards about some legend players . I liked a lot yours comments for every card . I remember than Jim Kelly had started his NCAA career at Penn State as a LB then he went to Miami University to play QB . So difficult to say which is my favourite card because they are all great, but mention to the action cards, specialy the horizontal cards of Dick Buktus and Bob Lilly. All the Best and Happy Collecting
@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648 3 года назад
Thanks Fabien. Yes, Jim Kelly was originally a linebacker. He had a linebacker mentality at QB also. I watched plenty of Bills games growing up living about 20 miles outside of Buffalo. I saw him play in person several times. Shane Conlan who was a good MLB with the Bills came from Penn State too. Thanks for the great comment and for watching. Take care, Terry

Topps showed they could have great action shots in this set. I’m not sure why they didn’t do more in action and fewer staged photos.

This is a great set like the hockey sets you showed in the past 79/80 probably on par with the 76 Football set , 74 Baseball, 80 Baseball 74 Hockey, 79 Baseball on par with the 76 Baseball , Hockey and Football. this set is better than the 1986 Baseball I also find this set more exciting than the 86 Football, Baseball and the 1988 Baseball . this is a great set. The Horizantal cards are very beautiful. nice Bradshaw, Decan Jones, Tarkenton, Harris, shell, Ham , John Riggins , Mean Joe Greene, Griese , Dierdorf , Len Dawson, Youngblood , Broadway Joe., Johnny Unitas , Staubach , Oleson , Ken Stabler , OJ Simpson , Csonka, Dick Butkus , Bob Lilly you are right about Dan he did do games on Sunday. did Harris ever dream about playing for the Raiders , Broncos, Saints , Cardinals, John Riggins with the New York Jets how many of your commentors do you think remember him with New York? With Mean Joe should we just say the Coke commercial? Inside the NFL with Len I miss Johnny U! I see another great QB Ken Stabler . now some questions do you watch inside the NFL now a days when it's on Show time is that right? is Jim Langer a common skipped number or is he somebody that was famous that I just never heard of? How many Qb's do you see in this set that are better than Tommy boy or garbage face you can refer to him which ever way you want? I think I count 7. if he had been playing in this time period how many superbowls do you think garbage face would have won? I think I count 1 if he's lucky. 1. Stabler 2. Namath 3. Unitias 4. Bradshaw 5. Tarkenton 6. Staubach 7. Griese
@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648 3 года назад
Hey Mark, Not sure where Franco wanted to play, but not for the Steelers. I am sure there were some bad teams he would have wanted to avoid. Jim Langer was one of the greatest centers ever. Not sure how well know that makes him. Mike Webster and Chuck Bednarik are more well known, but Langer was a first ballot hall of famer as well. I haven't watched Inside the NFL since probably 1990. I am not a Brady fan but he has had the best career of any quarterback, but that is not the same as being the best quarterback. It is tough to compare QBs across generations. The game was far rougher when Otto Graham, Bobby Layne and Unitas played. The rules favored the defense until 1978 when DBs could no longer bump from the line. That is when passing really took off. I think Unitas, Staubach, Tarkenton and Graham could have succeeded in any era. Namath had bad knees, but would be great in today's game where the QB is protected. The best QB I ever saw play in my time is Peyton Manning. I didn't see a lot of Staubach.

@@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648 I haven't seen inside the NFL since I want to say some time in the mid 80's or late 80's when Nick and and Len were doing the show.

@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648

That was a good first year to collect. As you mentioned in your other comment, Topps was using more of the action shots in their sets. 73 had interesting experimentation with action shots. There were some that had a lot of played in them and it could be hard to determine the subject. I love that history and the evolution of the photography.
