The managerial clowns at BSA thought Vetter's styling too radical yet Kawasaki sold huge numbers of Z 900s and the press raved about the styling. Hurricane is undoubtedly one of the best looking bikes ever. Hats off to Craig Vetter for his visionary design.

Fell in love with the Hurricane in 1973. Couldn’t buy one because they were so rare. Bought a Trident instead. Finally after 44 years I found one for sale. 2200 mi. on it. Been setting for years. Bought it from a kind gentleman who wanted it cared for. Have Hurricane and a new friend to boot.

Back in 1973 when I was a Junior in high school, friends and I would go to the Honda-Yamaha-Triumph dealer in Storm Lake Iowa about 15 miles from the town we lived in. Storm Lake at that time had a population of 8,500 so it was a bigger town in rural Iowa. They had an X-75, and I loved that bike. I used to sit on it about every time I went there. But for a teenager looking for his first bike (I bought a new Kawasaki 400 triple in 1974) it was way out of my price range and possibly the most expensive bike on the show room floor that included the Honda 750-4 and the new Yamaha 750 twin 4 stroke. At that time Triumph had a horrible reputation for reliability and electrical issues but if I had the money I would have bought it. Great to see one on the road and in very good near original condition!

I love the personal stories about the bike ..having spent my life fixing those things ,,you can get a bit jaded ,,,but when you realise that people rode and enjoyed and had their own stories ,, it makes it so much better ! thank you !

I always thought this model is so pleasing to the eye, as sexy as a bike can be. Hearing the owner described his thoughts and feelings towards his bike confirm it. She is beautiful.

I've heard of them, but never saw one, that is beautiful, and very throaty sounding. I think that's the best "factory horn" I've ever heard on a bike. It sounds clear and open, not tinny, as usual. I enjoyed the fact there was "original patina" remaining, a touch of the times past for this creature. Best sounding three cylinder I've heard I can remember. Thanks for this review.

I just love the sound of the Triple, instantly takes me back over forty years to my T150V, a workmate at the time had an ex-works Rob North framed Rocket III and his brother had an X-75 Hurricane (their dad was Harry Woolridge of Meriden fame which probably explained the bikes he is sons rode....)

I purchased my first bike , a Yamaha AS3 125cc from a shop in 1972, England. I remember a row of 5 or 6 Triumph x75 lined up in the shop and to this day I agree, a most beautiful bike.

What a bike. Triumph are bringing out a new Trident to compete with the MT07 they should think about a classic version styled like this beautiful Hurricane. Who wouldn't want one?

I bought one of those in '85 and sold it about 10 years later. The Hurricane I rode the heck out of. I did not baby it, and I didn't ride it like I was a collector. The pipes dragged pretty easily., and I flattened the bottom one pretty well. The seller ran a motorcycle shop and sold the bikes to help fund his son's racing. It was well built and never leaked while I owned it. Except for tune ups, I never worked on it. The three points are like two but one more. It isn't a problem. Mine also had a milled head, and went fast.

I don’t think anyone has ever built a better looking bike in the history of motorcycles, it makes you wonder what the management of BSA were thinking of when they didn’t push this gorgeous work of art. Thanks to you and Doug for bringing the her to the cul de sac.

One of the most beautiful, iconic bikes to my way of thinking. I think it has more styling cues from the flat track Triumphs than choppers.

Great survivor. I had a friend who road raced his Hurricane with east coast aamrr at Bridgehampton, NY when his was new. We were amused with it's styling for the track, but any three cylinder BSA/Triumph is pure music to the ears. I'm a Commando guy, but that's the only bike that sounds better. Like triple butter👍. Yes sir it is most certainly the last BSA. I have a 73 that I bought in 1983. I have done less than 500 miles on it. It is sitting in my garage looking good.

Wonderful legendary cult motorcycle. Leatherman in its holster on his belt. A man after my own heart. Never leave the house on one of my road bikes without one.

I have a friend who has a BSA Vetter Rocket purchased in the US in the 80s one I believe of 200 or so made and sold as the BSA version of the Hurricane. I had the good fortune of taking for a short ride at a race meeting at Bathurst . I was stopped for photo shoots every 50 meters I rode or so it seemed at the time.

I remember back in 1970 on my 69 Bonneville that was fast being passed by triumph trident on a long straight. Rolled the throttle to the stops trying to catch him but couldn’t.

Great story! ‘69 Easy Rider was influencing the scene. Many other great B movies too. Those raked forks and smaller front wheel, and that Triple sound! That short seat story, some serious British bike history! Thanks for sharing guys - awesome! ✊🏼💙🙏🏼

I remember , as a child , visiting Devines in Glasgow ( Great Western Road) with my father and they had one for sale in that color ... I fell in love for the first time that day.

Best looking Triumph never made. First one I saw used to live at Jacksons motorcycles in Chorley Lancashire England. Back in the late 70s early 80s.

Nice bike. I had a T140E Bonneville with a Hurricane tank /seat unit back in the early '80s,with extended forks & short reverse cone megas. Very popular with the neighbours as I recall as it use to make their windows rattle first thing in the morning when I used it for travel to work!

What a great bike... I remember seeing a brand new Triumph Hurricane at Big D Triumph in Dallas TX in the late summer of 1972. Beautiful Motorcycle!

As a teenager when that bike came out, it was the one I really wanted when I was "old enough". Unfortunately it was always out of my price bracket. Doug has a beautiful bike there, only just over 6000 miles, amazing, great to see.

Cool bike..... I am in England and one day a little while back (in Slough) I saw three of these together in about 20 seconds..... I thought I was suffering a 'flashback' from some good acid from the early seventies..... surely the most beautiful bike that England never made.........

When I was in high school back in the early 70s I saw one of these sitting in a parking lot. Even though I didn't know what it was at the time, it was absolutely stunning with the sun shining off the brilliant colored body work. I've often wondered whatever happened to it, whether it might still be stuck in a shed or barn near where I saw it 50 years ago.

How cool this is in Portland, Oregon! I am in Camas, Washington and bought a new Trophy Trail 500. A 1973 in early 74.

I've got a 75 T160, a 73 T150 and a 69 Rocket 3. Nothing like a brit triple!

Back in 1980 a biker in Swanage , Dorset, England, called Bruce had an X-75 which he'd imported from the US as the X-75 was not sold in the UK.

Doug thanks so much for bringing X-75 out to the cul-de-sac! I saw my first one in the metal on the East coast at Marcus Dairy Sunday morning ride-in probably early 90's on my common '86 Moto Guzzi LeMans 1000. Astonishing most people where walking right past it not knowing how special it was!

I grew up riding BSA’s and Triumphs and when this thing came out I had dreams of owning one but at lass it never came to be but it’s nice to see someone that is lucky enough to own one. But my experience with my love of British bikes taught me how to work with tools and the beginning of my mechanical career. It’s a love hate relationship but I can never stop loving the old British bikes from my first Triumph cub when I was 13 to my first BSA a 1959 super rocket. Thanks for the memories, what a great story and history on your bike God bless ya.

That was a very special story...thanks for sharing. I saw my first Hurricane in Cromer, Norfolk in the mid-70s and was gob smacked. Then when I returned to the US in 1979 a dealer in Manchester NH had 2 of them for $1500 each - in immaculate condition. As a 22 year old I tried to convince my father that he should buy them as they were rare and would be worth a small fortune one day. No luck...wish I'd had the funds to pick them up.

Wanted one of these so bad in 73.

I was always a BSA guy...this bike was always bittersweet to me.

An amazing machine! The styling was ahead of the times and the color just catches your eye!

Back in 1973 I was tossing up between this Bike and the First Model Z1 900, I purchased the Z1 and was so impressed with it, I payed $1895 Aust for it, had it on higher purchase as the called it, 3 year term, 1 payment left after 3 years and it was stolen, insurance payed me $900 I went a purchased another 1973 Z1.

I had a 74 trident. Definitely a love hate relationship. I still miss it.

Beautiful non-restauration...great job. Not to nit-pick but the BSA triple was canted 3 degrees forward from vertical, not 30. Craig Vetter - used to have one of his Windjammer fairings on my '76 CB 750 - insisted on wider cylinder head cooling fins for the Hurricane. I think it comes to 3 inches total over the stock R3 cylinder head...maybe a bit less. A friend of mine did a total resto on his. He said fitting the 3 separate exhaust pipes was a bear of a job, fiddly as hell apparently.

If this bike was built today ,with RH gear lever, it would sell out . In 1973,at MotorCycle Mart in Kidderminster,they had one in the window . It was £1295 ! It never sold and was swapped for a purple/white Trident at £1195 . Bob Joyner had three and couldn't sell them .I earned £72 a month then after tax. ! My C15 dreamed of becoming one --never to be . Great upload and content .

I've seen quite a few here in England. Two at a biker meet at Sammy Miller's museum. And one, only about 12 days ago at Teignmouth bike night in South Devon. Beautiful bikes and an awesome sound!

Now that is a beautiful factory custom. Not knocking other non British brands but in the late 60s and early 70s they made some fantastic looking bikes. Thanks to you and all those who bring their bikes to the cul de sac I always enjoy watching the videos.

Hello, great video. I bought one of these in 1978 #1141 or 1147 as i recall but its been a long time. Mine had a 5 speed. When i got it some cretin had tried to make chopper of it. 6 over forks and 10 inch dogbone risers with 4 bend pull backs. I had to stop next to curb riding it home! finding parts for it was tough , but i made do. I had the fork tubes machined down to X75 specs and ditched the risers - they literally moved back and forth 4 inches! I got some norton bend bars that were close to the originals. the fool that "chopped" it notched the tail section for a sissy bar. sacrilege! I had a local fibreglass repair fix it . The aluminum was all oxidized and i repolished it by hand with simichrome and 4-0000 steel wool. that was without taking it apart! i still dont have fingerprints. The exhaust was perfect and is a sound ill never forget. I rode it a few months and it started to smoke really bad. as it turned out a inner valve spring broke and tore up the valve pocket in the head . I racer friend of mine had a machinist fix it and replaced all the springs and valve guides with aftermarket parts. I remember the bike had a terrible straight line wobble that i fixed with new k81's it was really hard to start on cold mornings and the carbs leaked no matter what i did. I sold it to Buddy stubbs HD in 1981as he was insistent on buying it. he has a great local museum with lots of english bikes , but sadly not the x75 anymore. My Rocket3 was cool but the repairs are 3x any other BSA except clutch wise. Great bike so great it is preserved and ridden! The Sandybandit had a few too, always liked that shop helped me a lot.

What a brilliant episode Mike ! Great to see one of these icons actually being ridden and if your mate Doug isn’t the most deserving of owners then I don’t know who would be. I remember lusting after one as a penniless 17 yr. old in the seventies when everyone else dreamt of a Z1, which was definitely only the second sexiest bike of that era ! I hope you can keep this up - it’s really addictive!
