This 1974 Chevrolet promotional film, titled " Chevrolet makes sense for America ", was sent to the Chevrolet car dealerships to be used as an in-house Sales and customer training film. The film highlights technical aspects and features of the new model year. If you look up a different film I posted, titled "1974 Chevy Selling Monte Carlo ", you can see a rare glimpse of the film cartridge viewer that was used at the dealership where the customers and personnel were to view these films. The machine was made by Technicolor and called the " Chevrolet Mini Theater System "
This film came from my personal collection. This film was not downloaded from any website and is not reused content. This restoration is my work. The restoration process started with removing the super8 film from the Technicolor Cartridge. After removal the film was cleaned, repaired, and spooled onto a standard film reel. Next the scanning to digital process was performed on the Lasergraphics Scanstation motion picture film scanner in 2k resolution. This film was very red without almost no color left. The extensive color correction was performed in Davinci Resolve. Finally, the film was converted to MP4 format for uploading to RU-vid.

Dad was a commercial traveller. Got a new car every 2 or 3 years. Let me choose colors for 69, 71 then for 74 i got a small budget for options. Decided on a red metallic hardtop. black n white hounds-tooth interior and fender skirts. It was stunning. 1 day shortly after he got it, he came home with a white vinyl roof. i almost cried. Loved that car. he put 70k miles on it in 2 years

These were the family cars when I was a teenager. If you did not drive one of these, you likely opted for a Ford LTD. If not that, Maybe a Chrysler Newport or Plymouth Fury. These cars floated down the road, very comfortable, no road feel.

After the Arab Oil Embargo of 1973, It became a lot harder to sell those big, thirsty sedans and the Vega, which was rushed into production, was clearly inferior to the Datsun B-210 and Toyota Corona.

@@theemulsionalchemist5688 Perhaps. GM overreached on advanced technology, with the Vega's linerless aluminium cylinder block. While Porsche made this work, in their 928 and 924/944 models, it seemed troublesome for GM, perhaps due to cooling system problems as overheating was a frequent in-warranty issue. The cast-steel engines in the Datsun and Toyota were reliable.

Chevy wasn’t top of the line. Caddies, Oldsmobiles, Buicks, these were more upscale. A Chevy was considered to be what a working guy could afford. These days on a working man’s wage you’re lucky to afford some crappy Kia.

Chevy can't brag anymore about how much "cargo and leg room" their vehicles have. Cause unless you're buying a suburban everything in the lineup now is rather small and cramped. With almost no leg room and hardly any usable cargo space for traveling with luggage and a cooler. But it really sucks that in today's time there are almost no American cars on the road and the selection we have to choose from is not fitting for long road trips. I'm 40 years old and I really miss the days when we had full size cars and vans to travel around in. Even the Ford Aerostar and Chevy Astro vans both had plenty of room. Now it's all about SUV's and tiny little crossovers with the 3rd row seating in the back taking up all of the trunk space.

@@mattbartolovich8228 It was more common for Oldsmobiles to be fully loaded at that time because they were one step below Cadillac. But Chevys were obviously the lowest of GM's entire lineup, so those options were quite a premium up-scale move if you ordered your car like that in the 1960s. Even up to the 1992 redesign of the Caprice, they didn't have power windows as standard equipment until then.

This smacks of total desperation. They couldn't or rather decided they shouldn't push the deficient Vega, they had just bloated up the Malibu, and these barges got hideous mileage with the emissions control crap of the day. Things weren't any better at Ford and not nearly as good at Chrysler. As much as I disliked the 71-76 Chevy and other GM products, I really liked the downsized 77 models, what they should have been making all along.
