When these guitars were brand new I suspect there were plenty of differences to justify the pricing as you travel up the range. But after nearly 50 years of regular use, they all feel and play great. These make the ideal basis for upgrades and modernisation, as the stage and road-worn appearances are genuine - so much better looking than relic'ed newer guitars. Maxons are very soulful pick-ups but may not suit your playing environment. The tremolos are usually perfectly serviceable on these old guitars, but fitting a NS510 Gotoh will improve the stability and bring the facility up to date. We are constantly experimenting with new pick-ups to find that perfect upgrade for these - we have a few firm favourites. But keep those Maxons in the original plate - we are sure you'll want to use it like that occasionally. Strats are so convenient for this. But the necks are where people fall in love with these.
