A car is as good as it's engine... This is an Ol' Merc' A real mercedes build from cast high quality materials, build to last not like what is available currently... I totally understand why the owner trusts this machine,despite of beeing beaten up' it brings him home every time and food in the family table... Respect! Full respect!!!
@@jeromeglickMechanic labour costs in rich countries are so much higher than here that the result of that equation is much different. It can make more sense to keep the vehicles going than to replace.
Amazing Kinshasa. Got to see a lot of great vehicles while I was there, MB Rundhauber, Magirus-Deutz 7500, MAN 630... I was told that there are FAUN L912 trucks operating up in Kananga, but I sadly never got to visit.

@recycleman 97 I hope so m8 , because I'm living in mine as I'm about to drive Sydney, Melbourne, and the to Perth , 5,000 k's in total . Luckily mine was an ex old folks home minibus rather than a parcel delivery van . My only concern is it has an automatic transmission . I'm going to service it before I leave . Flush , change filter and new ATF . Because of the dry climate her in Sydney, there's not one patch of rust anywhere on the chassis or body .
Is there a lot of road accidents in your country, considering the conditions of roads and just overall lack of lanes or road signs? Looks very dangerous to even cross the street there.

In Europe, people sometimes complain that we're hurting african countries by only sending them our older cars that are environmentally unfriendly. While the environmental aspect is absolutely true - these old diesels aren't clean - those people just don't realize the reality of maintaining a modern, clean car in countries where you have less money. Hell, even in Europe, maintaining a car is already pretty expensive and a service bill can be a couple weeks' wage.
Building new cars costs more to the environment than scrapping old but working cars. At least some of these were put to good use by being sent abroad. Our emissions and safety inspections won't allow vehicles like this to keep running anyway
Eu nao tb, esse "Kombi" deservar mais cuidado, mais pq ele ganhar dinheiros com essa "burro de carga..., tb tem parece...que o dono vendou/jougou fora muitas partes ..., um vehicula desse precisar um pouco cuidado....mesmo que uma mulher...demonstrar gradiaou,...nao accabar tudo no jeito do escravar... !
UK an Europe mainly. I sold cars for a long time and from about early 2000s Ford transits from the 80s which where rotten (bodywork) started being exported to Pakistan and Africa. The engines still had hundreds of thousands of miles left in them but mot tests made them impossible to keep on the road. Also 4 door Toyota cars especially corolla, all used as taxis over there
