You don't need new barrels if they go over 60 thousandths. You can buy sleeves for them and go back to standard bore or sleeve up to a 920 cc kit [the spendy option].

Great video, appreciate the time it takes to create them and it sure helps those of us who have yet to do that stuff. I have a 1975 Commando Mk3 and the engine is the one part of the bike I've yet to touch. Cheers

Sucks for the owner, but nice to work on such a clean machine. They (Norton) went to some lengths to get alignment right , looks crazy compared to modern bikes . Shows Why you need Mechanics familiar with old machines . I had a 750 Atlas years back ,along with Triumphs, Ducatis and Laverdas over the years, now its all Japanese in the shed , oldest being a Yamaha TX650, its big-brother TR1 XV1000 chain-drive and a Kawasaki W650, all fun bikes . The XV is getting a bit heavy these days but too much enjoyment to give up yet . Dave NZ

I had a '71 Commando - bought new. Never knew what was inside the engine beyond the valve tappets. I'm glad, now, that I never took it apart! :-)

Some ring sets like sealed power have plastic bits on the crinkley part of the oil ring to stop overlapping ,they can mark the bore, has it got enough ring gap ? , it dosen't seem to have proper cross hatch ? , Top lands can make a noise mostly when cold , I noticed your top lands are shinny ! you would expect to see carbon on them .010" removed from the top lands will stop that type of noise . I have a 73 750 MK5 ,Cheers good video .

Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you caught on to some of that stuff, the people that bored this cylinder assembly the first time they messed up the cross hatches, and that worn spot was missed when it was previously bored, because our new machinist said it wasn't bored properly, we believe its good now and you can see it in video part 2, Also unfortunately this top end only had a little over 400 miles on it sadly, part 3 is coming up where we replace the main bearings I think you will enjoy that, glad to hear you have a Norton also,

.010" from 'the-face' , or the width, or the Back of the groove ? just wondering, Dave, NZ

I took a bike apart once that had cool looking velocity stacks on the air intakes no screen and the gravel scored the bores so bad. I cringe when I see guys running no filters.

@@johnutting9615 1.7500 STD for 750’s and 850’s anything less means the crank has been ground and has thicker bearings
