A historical documentary that all should see. I realize that not everyone will agree, but I miss the 70s

I went on a school class trip in 1967 or 68 to the old Port Authority Building on W14th ST (now Google). We were introduced to the New World Trade Center the PA was building. We watched a film and then the Model was revealed to us. It was amazing!!! I might have some blurry B&W pics lost in my garage!! In summer 1975, a friend and I explored the Trade Center. We had the entire South Tower 105th Floor to ourselves. It was vacant - no walls or ceilings except for the central core, which was sheet-rock (which I thought was odd). Light bulbs were strung on wires, carnival style, the windows were filthy. We worried someone in the North Tower would see us and call the cops, so we stood back from the windows.

I was born in 1968 and rememeber seeing the WTC under construction. My father took me to the very top in 1977. People really have no concept of the shear size of 5hose towers. I used to like to meet my mom there for lunch. I had friends who worked there and my friend was one of the firefighters that was killed that fateful day.

My uncle worked for TWA at JFK. I was 6 when this film was made and we lived in the flight path of LGA. I can remember watching the SST taking off from JFK and the sonic boom that drove some people in Rockaway crazy! I also remember watching the Twin Towers built and it broke my heart when 9/11 happened.

Interesting artifact from the 1970s. Very little did anyone know at the time that the Twin Towers would be gone forever on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. 😢😢😢😢😢

I don't understand the point of having a port authority. The bridges, the roads, the harbors and the airports were there BEFORE the port authority. The narration made it sound like the Port Authority is a business that provides these services. But those services were already in existence.

Mark S The Port Authority was established, in 1921, well before many of these assets existed. I believe the main purpose is to coordinate the flow of people, and goods, between the rest of the world and the states of New York and New Jersey. Having two separate state agencies fund and manage these facilities would not maximize investment nor foster the level of cooperation necessity to ensure the free flow of people and goods. This is rather unique, in the US, but not too surprising based on the unique geography of the region.

omg ☺️ finally some decent footage from the actual floors of the wtc - especially still without PCs 😲 i wonder how it would do today, in times of social media and all. or what would‘ve happened if the fires could‘ve actually been deleted, or if only one tower fell and so on 😮
@visionist7
@visionist7 3 года назад
The ceilings would all be open today, exposing all the trusses which would have their (ineffective anyway) spray-on fireproofing removed and replaced with intumescent paint. That's the trend in modern office design.

If the Twin Towers were still around today, they sadly wouldn’t be the tallest buildings in NYC anymore with the construction of One Vanderbilt, 432 Park Ave, etc. however they would still be the tallest in lower Manhattan. The WTC mall was acquired by the Westfield Group and was going to be expanded in 2002 and renamed “Westfield Shoppingtown World Trade Center”, but because of 9/11 that sadly never happened. Without 9/11, I imagine the expansion would’ve been completed around August 2002. The North Tower’s antenna would have to be replaced sometime between 2006-2007 following health concerns (apparently there’s this rumor that the antenna was causing cancer due to radiation). Either way, if the original WTC was still present, you would definitely see folks taking selfies on top of the Twin Towers, and even using selfie sticks as well. The towers would continue appearing in movies, tv shows, anime, etc.
