Thank you Tony for taking the time to show us the process. People don't realize it's almost impossible to find someone to work on something like this . There should be plenty more views and likes. Thanks for sharing this video
Great video. I have nothing to add tech wise But seeing that door card reminds me of how miffed I was when the bean counters deleted the door courtesy lights from these cars, and the LTD Landaus, starting in 1977
At 16:46 when you used that bulb and tube to extract one drop of lubricant, reminded me once of visiting a watch repairman and seeing a group of different sized feathers sitting on his work bench. I asked him what and why feathers? He showed me a canary feather and dipped the tip in watch lubricant, then touched it to a screw so tiny he needed a jeweler's loupe to see it. He said he had hummingbird wing feathers when he had to use freeing solvent in lady's dress watches. He gathered all the feathers himself and had learned that trick from his grandfather. Glue, freeing solvent, cleaning solvent and lubricant were placed that way, so as, not to get on other parts within the watch.
Hi Tony, as usual a very informative video, I always like to se them. I am sure that they are a good help for them who like to do thees jobs on their own cars.
Suggestion for easier re-assembly of power lock to mounting bracket: Put the rubber grommet on each metal stud on the power lock motor. Then power lock motor can be slid into the slots on the mounting bracket. It might also help to apply some silicone lubricant to the grommets.
This really helped, greatly appreciated. Would love to see a video on getting the illuminated entry working. The lights for the ring around the key hole don't light up but the courtesy lights do. Any ideas? Greatly appreciate it. Love the car by the way.
Thank you! Yes, I'm planning to do a video on illuminated entry as soon as the weather clears. I have one not lighting up in a Lincoln parts car, and I do have an idea why it's not working. I'm also gonna do a video on taking the illuminated entry out of a parts car and adding the option to another car that didn't come with it. Please subscribe I you haven't and stay tuned.
Thanks for the video. I took mine apart and found that the rubber grommets on the frame were missing and couldn't find them in the door. I'm asking where can I purchase new grommets. I'm at a stand still now. Thanks again for the video
If you haven’t already, can you please make a video on the seat fold actuators? My ‘78 thunderbird had an option for them, but didn’t come with them. I want to add them to my seats but can’t find any images on how/where they mount under there. Thanks
My door locks all make noise but they dont go up or down I wonder if its the bushings? Its also nearly impossible to operate the locks manually. Im going to have to tear into it soon. This is on my 78 Grand Marquis 4 door. Also the driver side window doesnt budge an inch
I put white grease or wheel bearing grease on plastic clips, screws, etc. before putting them back in place. Makes it a lot easier if you have to remove them again. The window track I probably would have put some grease on it since I had the panel off. It's been hot as a convection oven up here in central IL. We still need rain desperately.
I use Fluid Film. Zero petroleum. White grease is for large surface interactions. And it dries out. Fluid Film is $10 at Walmart for bonus size. It never dries, and is pure magic! I lube the ENTIRE inside of my doors. Latches, handles, tracks, rollers. My doors operate like butter! I just did my survivor 1967 Corvair. Recently my '66 Toronado, '91 Ford F700, '97 Suburban 2500, 2007 Escalade. I like my vehicles to work PurrrrrFectly!!!
@timw8228 Well, as I showed and stated in the video, I'd had the door panel off before and greased all that then. It was all still very well coated in grease and not dried up at all. I even operated to window to show it. My cars are always inside and covered and never out in any of the elements. I would have greased it if it needed it. As you can see in the video, everything was working smoothly as it should. I've been repairing power windows and doorlocks since the mid-1980s with no complaints.
Hey Tony I'm working on my 77 and I need to replace the blower motor, car Dat for awhile and mice have made themselves a nice little nest in the blower motor wheel. My question I'd how in gods name do you get to it? I need no access from the outside or the inside of the car. Please tell me I don't have to pull the entire fender off the car to replace it?
