AMC advertising agency usually produced humorous commercials with recognizable character actors. This was the Pacer's first model year, which began on March 1st, 1975. It was a short model year but they still produced 72,158 cars, not a small feat by any stretch. Although the Pacer proved to be a very reliable car, no recalls or repair issues, it was not overall designed well, the Glass produced interior heat, air conditioning was required for comfort which sucked up gasoline, it was heavy and under-powered. Production ended just shy of 5 years in production. The Pacer in this commercial is a D/L model with the Basket Weave style interior. It appears to be pre-production as it has body side molding that is key colored to the car and to the best of my knowledge, that wasn't available in production cars.
