This is a film reel from 1975 (hence the bad quality) between the Longview Lobos and Odessa Permian Panthers played at Jones Stadium. It has the 62 yard field goal by Russel Wheatley which was then a record, and ended up being the deciding score, as Permian won 10-9.

I was there at that game and watch Russell Wheatley kick that 62 yard field goal. I was only 12 years old and remember him kicking them from 80 before the game.

the kick was a national high school record until the 80's.

It was so exciting! I was about 6 months pregnant and mu brother was on the team, so I didn’t miss any of them:).

i attended this game as a member of the longview high school band. i'm sure russell wheatley was a good HS kicker. however, i do recall that the wind was CRAZY strong for this game. no doubt an assist for the long field goals...

goten1214 I live in Port Neches Texas we played Mojo in 1975 for the state championship and all the footage from the game was either lost or stolen from the school archives. I wondered if you had any connection to anyone who may have some video from the game?
