DROP DEAD GORGEOUS AMP FOR '75!!!!
@MichaelSorensen-bl3ec
@MichaelSorensen-bl3ec Год назад
Sounds great. I think most people just are too afraid to crank the volume because they are unholy loud, but that is where they truly come alive. Too many people try to keep the volumes down and jam a pedal in front, it's not quite the same. Nice looking Greco too!
@HeadfirstAmps
@HeadfirstAmps Год назад
Mike, I totally agree. So many people complain about them being too bright…you got to crank them. Which is where a ppimv or powerstation is useful.

Dude! I’ve been on a real kick lately of re-discovering my Aussie rock childhood (late 70’s/80’s). I keep telling folks I know here in the States (been here since ‘89) that we had the best live music scene in the world back then. Time to add some classics to the amp testing repertoire! Angels, Divinyls, Chisel, Oils.

Hey you crazy aussie. Greetings from Texas. Did you visit Texas when you came over? A buddy of mine bought one of these brand new in the early 70s from Brook Mays Music in Dallas Texas. He had to wait a long time to get it here but wow it was worth it. You got this one sounding great. Thanks for the video.

You gone and inspired mate. I’ve got a ‘75 lead and bass head that I haven’t even taken a bias reading on since I got it a year or so ago. Just got my bench finally cleaned off. Time to open her up and see what the hell is going on in there. Has MM iron all around but sounds pretty good even though Heyboer is more my Marshall jam.

I have a Super Lead from the same year. Based off some of your observations, and some of the tones you were getting. I'm starting to suspect that my amp might be modded outside of the capacity that I'm aware of.
@HeadfirstAmps
@HeadfirstAmps Год назад
It’s very common. 9/10 have been modded in some way.
@thechannelforeverything2170
@@HeadfirstAmpsWell it turns out my amp was more molded than I thought. Now that it's been serviced, and brought back to stock. It's easily one of my top amps. Amazing tone, with great dynamics and great feel.

A few players here in NZ tell me they do not like Marshall amps. I wonder if they have just tried ones that have been messed up. This Jason bloke constantly gets ones in that do not sound like they should. When sorted out the amps have the sound. The quintessential sound of Rock. The other thing these folks say is Marshall amps are horribly thin and bright. That tells me they never played the amp loud enough to overcome the bright cap. They are surprised to learn early Metallica is not Mesa, it's Marshall. Not exactly thin and bright.
@HeadfirstAmps
@HeadfirstAmps Год назад
I agree with this! People that say that have simply not set the amp up properly.

EL34B, Tung-Sol Reissue! I been using these for a while now! But man Tung- Sol here in the states are almost $200.00 I guess having a valve amp is part of it. One thing for sure is JJ are a way on price for sure and my pre amp i been using JJECC83S I'm not what you using and like. One thing for sure going to a store and buying tubes is not that easy! More than me you are in the amp building so i understand were you are at on that.

I assume the reminder of the preamp circuit, minus those Super Bass mods, were classic Super Lead specs for that era of amp? Split cathode on V1 with a 2.7k/0.68uf and a 820R/330uf? 0.022uf and 0.0022uf coupling caps? Did the second gain stage on V2 have a bypass cap?

@@HeadfirstAmps I imagine there is not much difference tonally between a 470pf and a 500pf cap in the treble peaker or the tone stack once you take into account the tolerance factor on the capacitors.

Nice video. About the Origin 20 Plexi mod vid, is that the closest to a standard 100w super lead, or is it closer to one on a variac?
@HeadfirstAmps
@HeadfirstAmps Год назад
For the 20 it’s like a variac because the voltages are so low in that amp. If you did the mod to an O50 then it could be made the same as a 1987.

Hey Peter, when I’m there by the Mac and the Axe fx I’m using a Suhr Reactive Load (the original one). This is a York Audio Blackback IR 57 and 121 blend. Sometimes I mic that old Marshall cab with a 57 with good results.
