My first Mets game was during the 1975 season. I still have the yearbook somewhere!

My late Dad and I went to see the Mets and Phillies in a double header. Koosman was crushed in game 1 and Seaver lost a typical Mets no run heartbreaker in game 2. Technically he got a no decision but he was taken out in the 9th with like 12 k's and they lost the damn game in the 10th. In game 1 Grote hit a groundball way behind 3rd in foul territory and was so slow that Schmidt was able to throw him out. My old man was yelling run Grote goddammit! Jesus Christ he's slower than Rusty for chrissakes! I went to a bunch of games in 1975. My Dad being a former Dodger fan and my 89 year old Mom still a Dodger fan we went to see the Dodgers ever August from 1971 to 76. After Seaver left my Dad was disgusted. I'll never forget 1971, we are there early to watch batting practice and out in the Dodgers pen a pitcher is working on stuff. I look at my program and said Dad who is Hoyt Wilhelm and he gave me a history lesson on his age, knuckleball etc. Richie Allen hit a BOMB to the light towers off of Ray Sadecki and Kenny Singleton homered for us off Bill Singer. Back to 1975, we had our best offensive season since 1970 which wasn't saying much and remember when Stearns broke Ken Sanders cheekbone hitting him with a warmup toss against I think the Dodgers? In 1975 Rusty had 105 ribbies and we finally had a guy with over 100 rbi's and naturally he was traded for FAT Mickey Lolich and Kingman hit 36 homers that finally broke Frank Thomas 1962 mark of 34 homers. I was tired of Murph telling us all the time about Frank Thomas 34 homers in 1962!

Citi Field should be playing these videos before, during and after the games. The stadium has no nostalgia. Except if you're a Brooklyn Dodgers fan.

Not 1 thing was said about Rusty Staubs great 1975 campaign. He became the 1st Met to drive in 100 plus RBI with 105 breaking Donn Clendenon mark of 97 RBI in 1970. M. Donald Grant foolishly traded Staub for a washed up Mickey Lolich.

Very stupid trade by the Mets
@sportsrevisited9699
@sportsrevisited9699 3 года назад
they could have had Staub in center and Tug McGraw in the pen on the '76 team that won 86 games. all the "could've" with the Mets is crazy. Staub instead of Unser? McGraw next to Lockwood? would have been a much better team.

The more M. D. Grant got involved the worse the team was.

Are we going to have to wait a hundred years and six more owners to see a tribute to our own team?

most batters have at least one guy they find a little tougher than the others. guess Kingman just didn’t want to say. (“they’re all tough”).

@@jimwerther Will never forget, it was on radio and he went into the 8th with a no hitter and Jorgensen hit a 3 run homer to beat him 4-3. I forget if Pepe Mangual or Jim Lyttle broke up the no hitter and Gary Carter was involved also? Tate was a two pitch pitcher, 95 mph fastball and big curve ball but horrible control and a head case. He died from I think Covid? What a waste of a great arm!
