Oooo, what a year, what a year.... Best Picture: "Nashville" Best Director: Stanley Kubrick, "Barry Lyndon" Best Actor: Jack Nicholson, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" Best Actress: Louise Fletcher, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" Best Supporting Actor: Robert Shaw, "Jaws" Best Supporting Actress: Any one of the actresses in "Nashville" (i.e., Lily Tomlin, Barbara Harris, Ronee Blakley, Shelley Duvall, Geraldine Chaplin, or Gwen Welles. If there had to be one big winner, then Gwen Welles would have to win it, but my personal favorite is Blakley.) Best Original Screenplay: Frank Pierson, "Dog Day Afternoon" Best Adapted Screenplay: Stanley Kubrick, "Barry Lyndon" Best Cinematography: "Barry Lyndon" Best Film Editing: "Nashville" ("Jaws" is a momentous thriller, yes, but it takes absolute creative genius and editing know-how to weave the lives of 24 major characters so seamlessly together as Altman and his team do here.) Best Art Direction: "Barry Lyndon" Best Costume Design: "Barry Lyndon" Best Score: "Nashville" Best Foreign Language Film: "Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles"
