1975 Porsche 914 Bolt-in Tesla Model 3 Motor Conversion PT 1 | EV Show 

Glad the model 3 bolt in kits are coming along, it feels like they've been in development quite a while

I did the same ElectroAuto conversion on my 914 back in 2009. I just spent the winter upgrading the pack to 6 Tesla Model S modules, but I left the motor and Curtis controller alone. The final effort was getting it imported into Spain. Now I really want to swap out the NetGain for a Model 3 motor/controller! I have to re-watch the rest of the series and get my drool towel ready.

Once finished it will be awesome, but that orange BMW omg I fell in love.

Nice find. Can’t wait to follow this build. As far as paint goes, I like the orange, but a friend of mine in the early 80’s had a green one that was fun to drive on an autocross course. I miss that car.

Hoping we can get an update on this project! I strongly advise the factory springs and torsion bars to improve drivability - unless the batteries add significantly more weight than stock.

No orange cables to denote 'high voltage'. That must not have become standard yet at that point.

I think it's a 1974? My 75 has different bumpers. Maybe early 1975? Can't wait to see it go!

Geez, just switching to lithium would make a huge improvement in how that car drives, adding the Model 3 drive unit and such would take it over the top! I didn’t realize that WV conversion tech was still like that so recently, some of that almost looks like it came from Home Depot’s electrical department. Oh, I Like the color too, btw

914 owner (Oly blue btw) to 914 owner, have you ever considered dropping an entire model 3 rear (wheel to wheel) in a 914 chassis? I know the track width is about 7” wider, but the 914 could really benefit from a more modern multi-link rear suspension. It would be a very intriguing retrofit not too much more challenging than a cradle build. Not a bolt-in proposition, but still. Your thoughts?

This is going to be a nice project, I got a laugh when I saw the metal straps and wing nuts on the batteries, definitely not up to EV West standards.

I love the colours of both the 914 & the 2002

Does the off gas that is produced while discharge promote rust? All the lead acid cell battery rooms over worked in was always stainless steel and all the electrical was hermetically sealed.

Nice video, but that's not a "1975" 914. The bumpers are wrong. For 1975, they had much beefier, solid bumpers, at least in the US market. I see it's wearing Oregon plates, so...

I'm still wondering why replace the engine. Replacing the gearbox with motor seems like the better way for me.
