Andy Robert’s was such a great bowler. If 1973 to 1978 Robert’s was playing today he’d be the finest fast bowler on the planet. In this 1976 series against England Robert’s has to be at his peak.
BATSMEN FACING LIGHTNING FAST | THUNDER BOLTS... NO HELMETS... NO PROBLEM! Would Tendulkar, Lara, Kohli, Kallis DARE FACE THESE GUYS (Without Helmets) AND SUCCEED? NO F'IN WAY...PONTING, MAYBE? LONG LIVE VIV... LONG LIVE GAVASKAR.. MIANDAD.. G.POLLOCK...BARRY RICHARDS & OFCOURSE LONG LIVE SOBERS!
Michael Holding missed the first Test due to illness, and here in the second Test ,he was not yet fully fit. This was the match in which Trevor Bailey stated, from the book 'GROVEL,' 'This is the first time I've seen anyone bowl faster than Frank Tyson at his peak.' Even on this dead track,Roberts and Holding,in particular, were bowling spells that were spectacularly quick.
I tell you theTv doesn't do justice to how quick Holding and Robert's wherein this test. And we sent Brian Close out to face this . Not just at Lords but Old Trafford. It's a miracle he survived.
@@neilsonlindsay2958 Brian Close must have been the bravest and most experienced of the available lot as no less a human could face the onslaught. A greater risk was taken by sending Colin Cowdrey against Thomson and Lillie as he wasn't as fit as Close appears in this innings.
I love you Tony Greg but grovel that was not clever thing to say !! Rest in peace Tony miss your commentary and jonners and never for get Bill frindle Freddie Truman. Christopher Martin Jenkins Tony coser such a massive loss to cricket...
Just look at the reflexes of the English batsmen, (especially Brian Close!) with no helmet against these deadly quickies of 'Windies! Simply brave& courageous British soldiers!?!❤️🙏🏏🌹
I wonder what the combined age of that England team was? I would guess around 350 for the 11 players. I know players looked older back then, but it must have been one of the oldest England sides ever.
in batting order 33 34 34 45 28 29 30 27 34 31 29 so your guess was only 4 out 354 the average age was 32 . Good job the 38 year old John edrich who celebrated his 39th birthday on the last day of this game wasnt playing. Ironically this was probably the final year by and large the youngsters werent given a chance as a first resort
07:33 I think the bowler has bowled a back foot no ball there. His back foot appears to have touched the return crease. Has Umpire Bird missed a no ball?
I faced a fair few west indians 70s 80s in the durham senior league as a teenager could not afford a helmet no wonder iam baldy now happy times .walsh . Benjemen. Patterson . Parry spin . Many others this where they made good money themdays ...
I reken WestIndies have shallowed their pride off after being so fearful and presice at once..............the kind of performance had showed here by Westindies in this match is beyond me judging their performance now-a-days.................any way really enjoyed this hotstile bowling by Windies great Sir Andy Roberts...............love to see his vintage bowling again.................
they had a better team once Marshall became the main bowler and Haynes was established as the opener. between 1980 to 1990 they were invincible. Started to decline slightly in the early 90s although it was 95 before they lost a series since in infamous NZ tour in 1980
Some of them are wearing the three lions & crown England home cap and others are wearing their MCC touring cap (St George & Dragon badge), which was then England's cap worn on overseas tours.
