Maybe the greatest of the modern era. I met Malcolm Marshall in 1995, very nice man, and I don't think was actually that tall (5'10). It's not unusual for offical heights to be overestimates. I was 16 at the time and I was noticably taller than him. I only 5'11 and think I may even have been slightly less than that then, not fully grown. At times he seemed to use his lack of height to his advantage - his bouncer skidded on batsman due to the lower release point.
This is two years before I started being a cricket fan. Also, this was the last year the BBC showed the action from behind the batsman 50% of the time.
Pringle batting 6 here, now that's a long old tail! 3 openers, 2 middle order bats and the rest. Lest we forget Chris Cowdrey was the next one up to captain the side. Englands selectors were of course all on crack for the entirety of this summer.
@@thomasmuller6301 Yes, there was hardly any great performers knocking on the door we left out... perhaps the bonus of that summer was Robin Smith. 1986, 87, 88 & 89... we didn't win a home test match. Bottom line at that time we had 4 world class batsmen and the rest were honest county pros.
Fantastic West Indies side. The current side are a pale imitation sadly. Think this was the last time West Indies won a Series in England. Could be a very long wait before they win another one.
Awesome. I had this test on VHS and converted to mp4 a while back but the conversion got screwed so I missed days 3-5 inclusive. Fabulous to have it uploaded.
