Nice rig! My old man said a Detroit diesel. Was a "device created, to turn perfectly serviceable diesel fuel into smoke and noise". Here I am, after 27 years of working on them...wanting to find one to put into an old truck.
That thing about vibrated my computer off the table. Lol. I have a 453 in an old P&H excavator but we have a big muffler on it. Might have to take it off. Love that sound!
My dad used to have one with glass pack mufflers for plowing . We hauled a lot of rocks and wood with that truck. Wish he was still alive I would have bought him another one
I just pulled a remanned 6.9 and T19 out of a Pick N Pull truck to swap into my 86 F250. Engine and trans came out to around $450 for all of it after discounts.
yeah the 1980 timberjack 240d we got it fires right up like this morning it was cold but wasnt cold enough for ether but ab 25 seconds of loping they go straight to idling the 453 detroit is unkillible like my dad and another family member told me when i started logging with them that jack will talk to ya and we talked they never hav much problems but when they need something like fuel filter which were ab to replace it will just fall flat on its face with no power
There was a guy when I was working in the oil fields in Michigan and had one of these best sounding diesel I ever heard and I drove an auto car for Halliburton earlier
What you are hearing is governor lope, all of the old 2-stroke Detroit Diesels do that when they are cold. It clears up after they warm up a bit they have a more clean and steady idle.
