lol me as a truck driver this is awesome! American trucks are bigger but less comfortable. I’ve heard cabover trucks in Europe have air suspension standard and are packed with comfort. You’ll never find an American truck with headlight rain wipers 🤯
Don’t get me wrong I love Peterbilt but having wide choices of truck like in Australia (Scania, Peterbilt, Isuzu, Foton, and maybe Kamaz?) would have been awesome
@@Irontree85 Just accept that American trucks are outdated with unsynchronized transmissions that are a thing of the 1930s. And European engines are dominating the American market.
@topfuelbike9556 I rather have a Eaton 13 speed than the automatic 12speed they fit standard (in my case in a volvo fh4) For the rest..I wouldnt run a Pete or a K-Whopper on these European roads, infrastructure is not made for these kind of wheelbase, not even when you pull a(for us measurements small) 45ft curtainside three axle Trailer. By the way, since Peterbilt &Kenworth are owned By Paccar they show quite some similarities with there Dutch sister DAF.
Please.. compared to the next gen the 4 series is a rattle box and the heater is the worst in the business getting destroyed almost immediately, same with the 5 series. And i have been trucking for almost 15 years and have driven all of them. Ur just going off nostalgia.@@valtterifani
@@Zirion123 Well..im driving a 29 years.I started my career Scania 112H..then 3-series to 4-series,R-series now my latest is been yearmodel 2021 R500.Still I miss good old 124L 470 Scania.
@@valtterifani trust me when ur driving a 4-5 series in Norway when its 20-30 minus celsius and all the heaters in them suck and webasto never works it sucks, and considering Scania is a Swedish brand not having a proper heating system is so bad for me
I think the good sale of 4-series Scania is imposed, one of them, by Clarkson. The other reason is, it is absolutely beatiful designed truck. And I think, there is no other person that can deliver presentation or advertising better than mr. so-called Jeremy Clarkson. It is just like someone storytelling about something that a lot of people may won't care about, to be interesting and entertaining.
And it is a very reliable truck like the 3 series. Sometimes I can see one of both still kicking, 25-30 years later the day they were registered. Same thing with the Volvo FL7/FL10/FH12 series
LOL…he’s driving on the same roads they used for the lorry challenge on Top Gear! And why did he choose the Renault Magnum when he knew the Scania 4 was better!
Strange watching this after watching the trio do a lorry challenge and having no clue about them 😂. I do say though that those Scanias have aged really well
This was the same year when the Mitsubishi Fuso in the Japanese market launched their semi-truck called the "Super Great". The design of these trucks particularly the side view has changed almost nothing for the past 28 years. Only those front design panels had just a few minor changes. So Scania & Fuso truck design dont really change them often.
Fuso only started changing noticeably(a bit) when they got acquired by Daimler-Benz. Nowadays Fuso has been losing a bit of reputation due to slight decline in build quality(namely the engines) Their legendary V8s are still around and coveted in southeast asia
Absolutely love the Scania 4-Series design and in my opinion it's the 4-Series that really set the standard for European forward cab design today aside from the Daf XF.
I drove a Scania 4 Series in 1996 when they first came out. It was a 124L 360 4x2 with an 8 speed splitter box. Spacious Sleeper Cab with night heater 38 Tonne GVW. It was terrific to drive with a lot of power from a fuel efficient engine , the splitter box gave it a bit extra when climbing hills . I drove it for 2 years and spent many nights sleeping in it.
I'm dying of laughter. It's amazing how cheap they actually felt the few times I drove one. Interior's like an early 80's Saab except 5x the thick cheap plastic.
He often pretends to lack experience. He did at least a CBT before going ro Vietnam (he reviewed a modern vespa in hus column) and he'd previously ridden motorcycles (slowly) on his earlier showsm
Regarding the capture dropouts. I stopped using the USB capture cards entirely, and bought early 2000´s SONY DVR, that can record on DVD´s. It records the footage as it comes in trough the analog input, without any de-sync, in a superior quality. After you are done recording on the internal hard drive, you can burn it on to rewritable DVD and copy it to the PC. You can really see the difference between these two videos, it should be obvious which is digitized by what. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nSVXo6nCF6E.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WhqtWg2-LXI.html
As a person that works on scanias, they are easily some of the worst tucks ive worked on. Overcomplicated and scania is just shit to work with in general
We had the same top line in the same colour when I was a kid I'm now a driver and I watched ever top gear but this escaped me and now I'm just living in the legend of this video wow feels like full circle
These things are solid I mean fire and rescue services still hold onto 94D’s to this day in 2024 😂 Scottish Fire & Rescue Service still operate them in double digit numbers and some even on a ‘99 V reg
Big appliance shake up is coming in Scottish Fire and Rescue though as unfortunately “Emergency One E1 EVO” electric ones designed and built in Scotland ( on Volvo chassis I think) will start rolling out over the next few years too ( first one should be on the road and in trial by now or shortly, but I’m unsure of where it’s going to be/is based, probably central belt somewhere) although they are a bit behind as they have been out 2/3years lol
@@gimble447 one thing for sure is even if Strathclyde and Grampian end up with these electric Volvo abominations, they’ll still have the Scanias for retained and backup units when these electric ones fail, think the best ones they had is the 2014 versions literally the same as the white 2012 with a better ECU map
@@cossiefordman720 Yeah I’m pretty sure you’re right there, but the oldest ones are definitely on their way out the door very shortly, hopefully most will find a second life by being exported to poorer nations etc🤞
in sweden when the 4 series came out they were called tussilago or coltsfoot in english because they were yellow and always stood on the side of the road broken ;)
Get a T cab then. Bull nose vs bull nose. The VNL would still loose though. You'd probably have to get a Vlastuin converted FH16 bull nose to have a chance
