This looks more like the Unadilla 500 national. Not a single frame with Roger DeCoster, Gerrit Wolsink, Adolf Weil, Heikki Mikkola, or Graham Noyce. Or Brad Lackey for that matter who would've been in Europe during the national championship series here.
That's true, but in the I mortal words from " The Right Stuff" "NO BUCK, NO BUCK ROGERS" We've also gone from vans to 18 wheelers, and huge support teams. Long gone are the days of top riders driving from race to race and.sleeping in the van!
Isn't it great that the only mention of sponsorship was by the factory that made the motorcycle? Nowadays MX riders are festooned with enough sponsor logos to look like a Russian general at the May Day Parade!
Thanks for preserving this and for posting! My 1st Unadilla was '75. I was 13 and it was about as close as you can get to a perfect day. All the makes; all the countries; EVERYONE was there. In the 500 support class, there was an epic battle between Billy Grossi and... (I can't quite remember. Jimmy Ellis on a Can-Am?) The track was so much better back then. Oh, and the smell. Can't beat that 2-stroke oil smell. (4-strokes today make a sickening moan going thru a whoops section. Just not the same.)
