you're awesome man! I really how to approach your loom jobs without worrying and just get them done and simplified. I've done a few myself, but it took me a little longer. I've only done 2 simplifying the looms. the first wasn't so good, but the second came out a lot cleaner with a bit more wisdom haha.
Fun fact, the 2006-2013 Brazilian Kombi, known as "T2c", had its 1.6L air cooled boxer swapped by a water cooled I4, 1.4L, EA111 (1.4L, I4) engine, which requires a radiator, placed on the front, above the bumper. Perhaps that one could be easier to convert, with room for an H4 or I4 in the back and for a radiator on the front.
Was thinking about you Mick today! Happy New Year, I'm deep into Subaru gearbox conversion I'm going to put in, removing the vw 2lt for hopefully smooth 5 speed forward shifting gears, good to see ya.
Wow awesome work! I love the inline valve on the heater core. I assume that keeping that shut is going to help keep the interior cool when it's hot outside.
Great Video. Looking forward to doing business with you soon. I have a 72 Westy that I am swapping for my daughter. I can get a 2007 Legacy 2.5 as a donor (complete). Is this a good start? Thanks!
Hello Mick, I thank you for taking the time to record and share this valuable information. I notice that on a previous video you shared from a 73 high top, you used the same radiator but stock Subaru fans. In this video you are using the same Dodge radiator but a Jeep fan. Is the Jeep fan a better choice than the stock Subaru fans? I am in the process of purchasing your parts kit and the parts you recommend for the cooling system build for a 71 camper. I do have the stock fans that came with the donor car but have no problems getting another fan if it will make things better. I am in Texas and the summers are brutal if that makes a difference. Also, I got a hold of a stock AC system which included the mounting setup you are showing in this video. ps. Will love to see a video showing the complete install of a fuel system on an early bay : ) Thank you!
+Jon Paul Awesome! If you do ever end up needing one I how have one the size of a postage stamp - easily mailed. Limp mode from the Subaru or wife - bad news!
So I have given all that I can with my engine mounted radiators and I am still running the fans at highway speeds and that is not enough. So I am going to switch to a belly mount set up, do you have a picture of the scoop you installed? I have an extra splash pan that goes under the front pedals, do you think this would work as a good scoop? I was also excited to see the heater set up as this is the same unit I purchased (except that I added a/c)and will be using.
+Oldcarnutzs If you don't need ground clearance then belly mount works well. It's possible that the splash pan could work as a scoop or just take your dimensions down to a metal shop and have them bend a scoop for you on their brake. I have a small brake and it works perfectly for bending scoops/brackets/baffles.
I am very amazed with you're engine swap work! Very neat, clean yet super functional! Anyway, did you overhaul the subaru engine before installing it to the bus? Or any used subaru engine is good to go without any reconditioning? Thinking about doing the same project as yours! Cheers!
+Ian K I like engine bay and belly mount. Just bought a Brazilian front radiator clip to experiment with too. If you only drive highways then go with belly mount. A belly mount would never survive in the places I drive my personal bus so I opted for engine bay.
Dude I love your channel. If I can get a bus I so want to do this. Love your work, and hope to see more. Btw have u checked out fellows speed shop? They are a Australian (I believe) company that specializes in these swaps as well.
+Sean Nedelko Hi Sean, Thanks for the encouragement! These are great vehicles and lead to an even greater life when you you can use them to adventure with. I checked out Fellows stuff a long time ago, great stuff!
Does the original manual transmission work well with this motor? Is the 1996 JDM 2.5L much heavier than the original T4 motor? You do great work. If I can ever wear out my T4 I will be paying you a visit.
Guy in England had a 66 with a subaru...how is ? He said his front end was loose so it was a scary ride. Troy, what did you decide ? I'm doing my vanagon first, and learn on that...
Hey mate. Loving all the videos, and still working my way through them. I have begun collecting parts for my t2 swap but have ended up with an 02 Outback as a donor. I was planning on using the reversed pinion kit to use the suby gearbox, but alas it seems ive ended up with an auto. Have you seen anyway to use a suby auto in a bus before? Without 4 backwards gears that is...
+Luke Drennan SubaruGears is working on an auto kit but it's been in test mode for a while. I'm not sure if it'll be available for your project. I would prefer the auto for nearly every swap - comfort, speed, no loss of boost when switching gears... I am patiently waiting.
