I vividly remember playing my heart out for the crescendo of Danny Boy - so emotional, pretty amazing for a bunch of 15, 16 and 17 year olds. That was a summer to remember.
even with a chrome desktop speaker, you can clearly hear the difference between an ensemble of bugles and a brass band. I will never understand the mentality of those who can't see (hear) something that should have never been taken away.
The difference in DCI top tier corps from this year and only 3 years later is surprising to me. I marched Spirit in 1980 and loved 27s show that year. Top 4 corps could have won on any given night. Thanks for posting this. Memories.
27th had the best guard in drum corps for years, the only guard to score a perfect 100%, I believe it was 1980. For those who were not there, well they missed it. The 70's to eighties was the best of DCI. Best guard in the business!
I marched in 1980. You wouldn't believe how strong those girls were and how high they could toss those rifles. We were all in awe of them. And they were all so sweet.
I was listening to this show on my iPod while walking my dog - I had to come back and watch - so glad for this channel - Every time I watch a Lancer show - I remember where I was when I saw it for the first time and how much I loved it. The day the Lancers went away was a very sad day in Drum Corps - Thank you for all the years that you inspired me.
One of my all-time favorite drone Google course especially at that time, a good friend of mine Bob poerschke, may he rest in peace that was his favorite Drum Corps, another plays in the Drum Corps he would watch Selden Cadets practice years ago out in Centereach Long Island. Bob would attend many competitions with me and always enjoyed 27th above all. I miss seeing Real Drum and bugle Corps. Former member of the Long Island sunrises and the Floyd Bennett golden eagles from Brooklyn New York
This was the year I stayed home and marched with the Sun Country Wranglers out of Tempe, AZ. We were about 80 strong in an area that had never before heard of drum corp. Sadly we didn't make it beyond our first year. I went into the Air Force and got to march with the USAF Blue Knights while at Keesler AFB. I really miss it.
I play snare in my high school band right now. Looking into the past and seeing these bands is always cool for me to see. Marching Timpani, THATS SWEEET!
More like the body movement of today's bands and corps. Also note Mile High in baseball mode, with dirt only on the bases like a turf field, 395' power alley, and 420' center field.
would love to attend a high school marching band contest, where they do all the "modern gibberish", then all of a sudden a band comes out with this music. No question it would get quite a stir, simply because there is so much excitement ! ! So often you go to a corps or band show, and the music just lays there for hours. . . . . I really believe today's band (corps) kids and parents have no idea this kind of music ever existed on the field.
I wonder if those guard girls knew at the time that they were setting the standard of what colorguard was going to become... years before everyone else got there.
To this very day, I will never understand why the 27th Lancers never won the top prize. This is the very epitome of what a drum corps should be. I really can't stand what they put on the field these days.
Tenor drums we used back in the fifties, average Drumline were three snare three tenor some Portishead form for two base and assemble maybe four symbols of X sin Kevin's Emerald Knights for an example.
