I'm a Manchester City fan, season ticket holder since 1976, I remember this match, Albion were a fantastic team back then and should have won some trophies, I well remember them demolishing the rags at the swamp 5-3, wit the brilliant Cunningham and Regis tearing them apart, a great football club, I love the Hawthorns, been on there many times. Best club by far in the WM.

West Brom had a very good team back in the late 70s. They could beat anyone on their day. First time I ever went to Elland Road (I'm a Leeds fan) I sneaked in with 15 mins.left and saw two late goals by Cyrille Regis in a3-1 win for them.

I am an Albion fan but my Dad is Leeds so I remember it well. I was 8 years old and my first real memory of my team (West Brom) vs my Dads team (Leeds). So as you can imagine we are both loving this season, fingers crossed we both get back to the Premier league where both clubs should be

I was 16 when I went to that match, we had a great run in the cup that year. The football was fantastic to watch.

I was 10 years old when I went to this game. At the time, both West Brom and Forest were probably two of the best sides in England, Forest especially, they were absolutely flying. I remember at the time the fear I felt at having to play Forest because they were that good and my sheer delight at having beaten them. I remember everytime the Forest winger, John Robertson got the ball, my heart was in my mouth. He was an amazing player. Watching the highlights again it looks like a passionate championship game. The technical ability back then was pretty bad. Great atmosphere though.

Couldn;t agree more - about the technical ability. It was all long ball punts up the field, balls over the top, cased down the win and aimless crosses. Exciting maybe but not skillful

Remember how bad the pitch was at The Baseball ground,NF always had the advantage on that pitch.

As a young Albion fan to support a team that included Regis, Cunningham , Willie Johnson, Len Cantello and Tony Brown was a wonderful experience. Best team in the country arguably for a year or two and should have won the cup and league

Albion went out in the semi-final to Ipswich. That was a match where, as a Liverpool fan, I didn't want either team to lose. It would have been great to see them both in the final.

It's hard to explain how big this defeat for Forest was at the time they had just been promoted and were going for the domestic treble never was it done before but Forest were top of the league League cup winners and unbeaten since previous November in all competitions they were like a team of Gladiators made up of nobodys really outstanding team under the guidance of Clough and Taylor the only team at the time to be a thorn in the great Liverpool teams side this Forest team went on to win back to back European cups that's why this defeat was such a shock to the soccer world

+Eddie Power Im a Baggies fan and was there for this epic cup tie, yer right about Forest too, they werent a bunch of superstars, BUT, they were a DAMNED GOOD TEAM, "molded together by the late and great Brian Clough AND Taylor", I remember when Cloughy bought the first million pound player, Trevor Francis, and at the press conference, Cloughy said to Francis "get yer hands out of yer pockets son, as Ive just paid a million quid for you", EXCELLENT.

Forest's only defeat in over sixty matches.

Clough said that to Francis when he was presenting him with an award whilst he was still at Birmingham.Not when he signed him.

Just watched the MOTD of this match. It's certainly true to say that it was a big defeat for Forest given their treble ambitions, but not right to say it was a big shock to the soccer world. As you say they were a team without big names, many were surprised by their success and were still expecting them to trip up - a bit like Leicester two years ago. Hence despite having reached the League Cup final (which was the following week) and being six points clear in the league with a game in hand, their treble odds were still 11-2. And West Brom were a good side, playing at home and on a six game unbeaten run themselves. So a slight surprise result probably yes, but to call it a shock to the soccer world would be pushing it.

This alongside Valencia at home were the two best games I have seen in 40 yrs watching them .Forest were nearly unbeatable for 2-3 years and we excelled on the day. How we messed it up against Ipswich in the semi..god knows

The best inspiration for the opposition is for the manager ( Big Ron on this occasion)to be photographed with the Cup. Bobby Robson didn't need to give a team talk. In fairness to Ron Atkinson, he was conned into posing with the Cup , plus Baggies never won at Highbury.
@Upstairsforpete
@Upstairsforpete 2 года назад
@@dougscrivens4002 Well yes we never had much joy at Highbury ( re QPR a few years later) but by then the team had broken up , thats why you need to live for the moment and try and collect some silverware along the way....

Are West brom fans singing YNWA?
@iloveNathalie1
@iloveNathalie1 8 лет назад
+King Jr It was common for fans of teams to sing YNWA, often with home fans and away fans competing to do the best version. Obviously the song had originated on the Anfield Kop in the 60's, but it was widely popular in the 70's. Incidentally, I was at the WBA v Forest game in 1978, one of the best matches I've ever attended.

Thanks for the information also when did fans stop singing YNWA?
@iloveNathalie1
@iloveNathalie1 8 лет назад
King Jr I would have said the 1980s at some point, but heard it sung on a West Brom v Swansea RU-vid clip from 1993, a game I attended. I wouldn't have thought it was still being sung at that time, which shows how memory is not to be relied on!
@tdonovan4735
@tdonovan4735 6 лет назад
Every team used to sing that song. It wasn't exclusive for Liverpool until, I would say, the mid 1990s. Milan used to sing it, too
