As a Blues fan I will be the first to admit many times we beat Villa it was down to one man. Trevor Francis. I remember one year at St Andrews when Villa absolutely thrashed us in all but on the scoreboard. They hit the post, the bar had shots kicked off the line, Hit a defender unknowingly on the line. Totally dominated Birmingham. Francis had one chance late in the game and he scored. Easily the best player I have ever seen in a Blues shirt was gutted when he finally left us.
RIP Trevor Francis. A true down to earth legend of the game. Imagine any of today's £100 million players being asked to make tea for everyone after signing on the dotted line.
That is so reflective of the times we live in now for so many reasons people now all think that they are superstars and that everything should be done for them funny thing is the true superstars are the ones who do things for others and ask nothing in return
As a Villa fan,I must say how stunned and sad I am at finding out this legend has passed....great player and gentleman, rest easy Trevor..... On a much more trivial note, interesting to see that ITV didn't have a problem playing the BBC clip here, yet the Sky Sports Retro interview only showed a photograph!
I stood on the terraces with my dad watching Blues in the 70's when 'Superboy' made his debut and in all the years since I have not seen another player in a Blues shirt come close to equalling his talent.
Never a truer word spoken. Men’s football especially and at the top levels, is no longer about the beautiful game it’s all about money and greed. Sòcrates said futebol arte died in 1982 and he was absolutely right.
as well as being one of the all times greats trevor was a nice man and a fine example of a pro footballer did he ever get booked or sent off i dont think so fill me in
To think we at BCFC signed him for the cost of a washing machine for his Mom....RIP legend, you were 9 weeks older than me and I dreamed of being even 1/100th as good as you, I never was...very few were or are....I just feel honoured & humbled to have seen some your finest performances while standing on the Kop
Remember seeing him against Bolton 4 goals at 16 in the Main stand i was 11 at the time ., then with mates i decided to go and see him later for QPR against the Villa at villa park a quality hat trick in his later years WOW , what a player KRO King Trevor.
@@stephenayres602 I was there too in the main stand with my Dad that day I will never forget it. Sadly my dad passed a few years ago but loved Trevor Francis.
Totally shocked 😳 to hear this sad news 🗞️. Respect to a humble man a legend of football skill sublime and could score Goals just at the right moment gone never forgotten 🙏 Trevor prayers 🤲 and thoughts at this sad time from a LEEDS UNITED Supporter 🇮🇨🤝 total respect
Humility, a rare quality these days. Even with Clough, he took it on the chin. Clough to be fair; relented. Francis delivered. Hope you're with Helen from 🏴 now mate. RIP and thank you. 👍 ☺
RIP Trevor Francis. It's insane that on the day we lose the first ever £1,000,000 player, Kylian Mbappe is about to head to Saudi Arabia for at least 250 times that.
Isn't it ironic that Brian Clough said that day that breaking the £1m mark would send transfer fees wild...Even Old Bighead never expected it to go this mad
I gave a record to Viv Anderson who lived in my home town of Clifton Nottingham. He invited me to Nottingham Forest ground as Viv used to visit my next door neighbours every Sunday and I used to go around and help cut the grass or hedge because I knew Viv Anderson was coming around. On arrival waiting at the Nottingham Forest gates I was invited in which last only around 10 minutes, Trevor Francis was the 1st guy I met asking what can we do for you young man. I said I have a record here called "We Got The Whole World In Our Hands" with all the Forest players on it and I wanted to know if all the Forest players would sign it. Trevor took the record and within 10 minutes returned it to me with all the players names on signed in white writting. I was so proud. Being so young around 12 or 13 years old a year later a man asked me do you want to sell that record? I will give you a good price. I asked how much? He said I will give you £2 pounds. Yeah I said excited thinking I can go buy some sweets/candy. Today I still think of that record, where it is and how much it is worth today. What an idiot I was. RIP Trevor a humble & kind man I had the pleasure to meet.
@@LingLiu2014 Ouch I hope not though I do think of it often but please lets not take away why I posted this story. Trevor Francis. Thankyou for replying.
Shame on that pathetic excuse for a man for hoodwinking you...I don't know how he sleeps at night. I guarantee if he had tried to pull that in the grounds in front of players, he'd have been tossed out and told never to come back
So sad to have only just heard this news. Nottingham Forest and Brian Clough were beloved by so many millions of fans across the world. Trevor Francis was a true legend, a gentleman, and now he is on the celestial team sheet of Heaven’s greatest players. Welcome home, sir!
He always seemed very decent, fair, intelligent and honest apart from being a top player and top manager. I remember when he was manager of Birmingham City and they played at local rivals Walsall, I think in a cup game, and at half time, the TV reporter, wanting to favour the bigger team, said to Trevor Francis "Unlucky you could have been 1-0 up there..." And honest Francis, said, referring to a couple of early Walsall chances, "Well we could have also been down 0-2 in the first ten minutes..." Walsall ended up winning the game 1-0, but Francis's honesty and fairness stood out, and Birmingham were playing well under him. A teenage Andrew Johnson (who also went on to be prolific striker for Fulham and Crystal Palace) made his debut (or was an early appearance) in that game for Birmingham, and he looked excellent, fast and clinical, but got injured during the match I think. Went on to have a good career, but really had the talent to have done even better, Trevor Francis may well have had a role in his high level of striking ability.
U can see with the dribble and what shud of led to a goal why Clough put him on the right. And they the back post instructions.. Simple.. But led to greatness lol 🎉
People talk about Havertz and would he go down as a Chelsea legend for scoring a winner in a European final. I can say that as a Forest fan, Trevor Francis went down as a Forest legend that day regardless of what happened beyond that moment.
Will never forget wot he did for Sheffield Wednesday made them play decent football and I went to the old Wembley In the 93 season against Sheffield United as a 10 year old will never forget that day waddle freekick wot a goal two finals against arsenal we was unlucky in the second game to lose R.I.P SIR TREVOR FRANCIS
Yes I think players would put more heart and determination into the game if they new there livelyhood was on the line players these days don't give a shit
Players these days are spoilt, emotionally stunted adolescents in adult men's bodies who hide behind their agents when managers hurt their feelings by telling them they're not pulling their weight or even playing to their full potential. Trevor Francis and his generation of players - those were real men who took care of business, were so grateful for the opportunities given to them and knew that it could all end tomorrow. They also knew that the fans made them and could turn on them at the flick of a switch if they started acting bigger than the club. Alex Ferguson was the last manager of that era to lay down the law....Clough obviously was that guy at Forest...
Bought for what was an unthinkable fee but never for a second believed he was worth more than the paper the contract was written on....that right there is the blueprint for how players should behave and it's exactly why Trevor Francis played for as long as he did. He knew it could end tomorrow and that healthy fear along with his undying love for the game is what prolonged his career on the pitch...aside from his superhuman ability to turn defenders inside out...
Francis was at his most devastating when playing in the middle(at Birmingham he was prolific there)..He should have been played there for England in the late 1970's and early 1980's also with say Mariner or Woodcock playing deeper and wider of him..
I still remember my Great Uncle Bob, a Geordie living in North Wales, talking about Trevor Francis and saying, before he joined Forest, that he was too good for Birmingham City. He thought that Birmingham would be a better team without him. Turned out he wasn't wrong.
My granddad always said to me that no player was worth a million pound then he told me a story about sending a letter to Nottingham forest to tell them and they sent a letter back with a singed autograph of sir Travis Francis RIP
Certainly not for kicking a ball around. I'm not sure, how ever skillful they were, that any player should have been valued at £1 million even. I'm old enough to remember when players, although relativity well paid compared to those paying to watch them play, still had something in common with anyone coming into the stadium. All that has been lost. Mbappe may be a pretty decent player by today's standards, but valued at near a quarter million ? Something is seriously wrong if that is what the game has come to.
@goldenoldie68 but is moviestars allowed to earn millions or government getting pay rises for saying yes 2 year old can do that I want heat on government nonstop
RIP Trevor Francis. I remember so well that first £1m British transfer back in 1979. He was a great footballer who I saw play many times. Condolences to all his family.
My eldest brother used to take me down The Blues when I was a nipper watching a 16 year old Trevor Francis who was brilliant then! So chuffed he went on to massive things, terrific bloke God Rest Him! 🙏💜 Ps: Brian Clough - Legend ❤
