In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 1977 Cadillac Sedan Deville. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

What an exceptional car....the sound of the Deville's engine is ace!

They drive like a dream. I do appreciate (and have owned ) the pre-1977 behemoths, but these cars were a big leap forward...especially in handling and utilization of space.

These are some of the most reliable cars on the planet. I grew up in the 80s and 90s and my late father drove one of these. Hell of a car.

I shouldn't like the color, but I do. Really suites this car.
@CorvusCasull

I have to say that this is one of the best color combinations I've ever seen on a Cadillac from this time period! I've always been a fan of the '77-79 DeVille, but especially the '77 since this tail-light style was only available for that year. I had an early 80s Coupe DeVille and always thought those rear lights were gonna get crunched! 'Wouldn't be as easy for them to get mangled with this setup! Makes a lot more sense for the lower half to be 'part' of the bumper, you know?

@Sedan57Chevy
@Sedan57Chevy 7 лет назад
I'd argue that it's closer to the '77-'79 cars. The Deville/Fleetwood line was updated in 1980 with a 'taller' front end & grille, which persisted through the 80s as the Brougham (before ending in 1992). The car in the game's performance is definitely closer to a late 80s Brougham with its 140HP 5.0l Olds V8, but styling-wise the car's roofline (look at the rear pillar and the fixed section just before the pillar, which is slanted forward like the '77-'79, while the brougham had an upright glass pannel there), along with having the 'shorter' grille from this first 'iteration' of the '77-'92 generation of body-on-frame Cadillacs. Even the dashboard is clearly inspired by the late-70s models with large controls set into a fake-wood dash (also takes some inspiration from a late 70s/early 80s Pontiac). The only major difference would be the shape of the trunk lid. Still, very close either way: it's basically just the same car, minus a different engine and a few minor cosmetic changes. The car in game isn't an exact replica of either, but I've always felt that it was closer to these early model years of this generation, rather than the more recent Brougham models.

That car has a couple of the same issues that my 79 had. The missing emblem over the trunk lock and the loose control panel on the driver's door. My brothers and I bought our Mom the 79 in 1989 and she passed in 91. I took the car and figured I'd drive it til something major went wrong. I had it til 2005 and drove it 175k miles!! Those cars ran and ran! Still ran great when I traded it in back in '05! Rear end was going out though! (for second time) Miss that car though! Kept the hood ornament!

+George Washington I traded it in on a GMC pick-up. They gave me 400.00 for it. The engine had almost 300k on it and still ran smooth and quiet! Sort of wish I'd kept and restored it.

Yeah the rear ends on the box chevies (the RWD C/D bodies were just stretched box B bodies) were pretty bad. 3rd and 4th gen Fbody rear ends sucked ass too.... aftermarket can help with new axles, differentials, and final drives. But expect to pay for high quality parts. That's the main reason why I didn't take on one of these as my very first project car. They're very upgradable otherwise though. Remember this is just an enlongated box chevy so all the suspension and brake upgrades bolt right up!

Takes me back to Cadillac number two in my life -- a Sedan DeVille in a light pastel green with contrasting darker green top and interior and the same wheel covers that was even cleaner than this. No loud muffler installed, however. Traded in my first Caddy, a 77 Coupe DeVille in the same color combo for it in the Summer of 1990. No 8-track in either of my 77's, tho.

My grandparents had a brand new, sky-blue, 1977 Cadillac Sedan de Ville. I was only 5-6yo & remember going w/them to see the "The Outlaw Josey Wales" at the local theater. It was a 9:30 showing & I feel asleep during the movie. After the show my grandmother carried me to the car. It was very dark & hard to see & when trying to enter that car, my grandparents noticed that it seemed "lower" then when the exited it. That is when they noticed the cinder blocks & all 4 tires gone/stolen. LOL.

Very unusual colour , haven't seen many in that gold/green metallic before. Be funny if they colour keyed the interior aswell Lol. Crackin motors you just don't see any over here in Britain only collectors have em, and I agree with others this is an era of motoring that we'll most likely not see again with all that environmental stuff goin on, and those big V8s sound fab, just so quiet you'd never know it had a big engine, can't drive myself I'm partially-sighted but if I could I'd want one a these, even though older American cars weren't always the most sophisticated who cares they're different from anything else and that's what makes them great.

@firstmusic00 Motor trend tested one and got 0-60 in 10.5 seconds so 180hp sounds accurate. Thats a very good 0-60 time for a late 70's full size car. These 77-79 caddys were geared pretty steep too. They came with a 2.28:1 rear end ratio.

That car only has a five-digit odometer. I'm willing to bet it has more than 70k on it. Still, a very clean example of an old Caddy. Incredibly big engine, wow! 7.0 liter V8. And the poor thing only made 180hp.

There are things you can do. Swap in a later 700R4 or 4L65E. You gain one more gear, specifically for fuel economy at highway cruising speeds. And catch up on any neglected maintenance on the 425/368. Vacuum leaks and fuel trim issues will KILL any hopes of smooth driving and decent MPGs.

If I were to take on any downsized GM RWD platform car as project it'd be a '78-'81 DeVille or '78-'79 Fleetwood. Don't l]ike the '77 style taillights, though I'm sure the '78+ style is easily swapped in on cars that fall outside the years I specified. The DeVille in this video definitely needs some maintenance but it's all there. Doors and rockers panels look solid too. Good candidate for a pro touring build!
