Pete, whats up brother. I know at times things seem never ending, and rough, but your living the American Dream Brother! Your a business owner, cant beat that. Ill tell you what Id rather have a choice who I work with, than no choice. Things are always tough, government sticking it to you when they can, friends constantly neededing "favors" and jobs that never seem to be any easier. Keep on Keeping on Pete, Nothing more respectable than a HONEST hard working business owner brother.
I just finished watching the entire series on this truck...Amazing work Pete! One thing that amazed me is the fact the hood wasn't crinkled on the sides. That is a very common problem on the early square bodies due to the hinge/spring design.
I owned one of those old Chevy's- a shortbox It was nothing but a pain in the ass, always something falling apart, buying the thing was opening a can of worms right from the beginning.
good ole earl schiebs.. when I was a kid it was 49.96 any color any car! Had a friend that had a truck that got a paint job from um... lasted about 3 months and then he was wondering why the paint was flaking off! Was pissed off cause he spent a hard earned 50 bucks on a paint job and it was peeling off!!!!
Didnt have the slightest clue anything like that was gonna happen. i was there 10 months and I think i missed 2 days to being very ill. Hell 3 months ago I cut part of my thumb off from the back of nail forward and went back to work within 5 days doing full duty. Did it feel great HELL NO, but suffered through the pain cause i felt its what I had to do to not only make ends meet but prove that I was not there to screw around but to do my job. What good it did me. KARMA god damn it will get em.
It looks like you need a new phone book. Alot of the wrecking yards I use to go to went out of business. They just cant compete with places like Pick N Pull.
Its a big project but you can do it Pete. Keep those vids coming, youre doing great job, good inspiration for other people to get off their ass and do something.
Been there done that. Can't afford to have a guy around that all he knows how to do is hand me tools and sweep the floor. If there only here to be a gopher, thats telling me they don't want to learn anyway.
pete am loveing this chevy truck episodes am just in tghe middle of getting me dads old pick up on the road and theres a whle heap of rust its a nissan cabstar year 2000 no parts avaible in scrap yar all rotted lol but can get from nissan but your literally paying sports car prices £165 englosh pounds for a 2 foot power stearing hose ! thats just the tip of the ice berg but a carnt tell you out
Hey Pete, My boss has the talent to hire fudgebrains, I insist that the next guy he hires I interview them first, When I was the boss I was able to pick out the Loooossers when they out of the car. Keep it up man God Bless, Hey Minnie waz'up.
I'm lol man, freaking hilarious! I feel your pain on looking for junk yards that are open, and believe it or not most junk yards and car shops around here in AL and TN are Closed on Saturday! Closed! Unfreakinbelievable. I"m slowly restoring a 1986 Chevy 4x4, but she's a woods truck, nothing too fancy. Best o' luck, look fwd to more videos.
All these old chevy trucks get rust like that, gm didn't really treat the inside of the panels with much if you remove the door panels or look inside the lower cab corner you will see bare metal apperance.... The right fender rusts out because of the battery location and when the battery gets old and nasty the acid drips down inside the lower front fender and rots it out.. Take it easy---Pete
If you thinkthats rust you wanna see a 60's Jag E type. They didnt put ANY paint inside any of the panels so they just fall to bits. Dead easy to get body panels though.
I had an OK 73-80ish chevy at the JY by me. its unfortunate they crush old vehicles in 3 days. What is here today is gone today these days. Tomorrow is over.
You know when your getting old, when the cars and trucks you grew up with don't exist in the junkyards anymore... And the guys anwering the phones don't even know what your tlaking about.
I hate it when junk yards say come on out and have a look, spend all damn day out there for NOTHIN why cant they save u a trip? i hate wasting a day like that! I hate lookin for parts!
Since this was supposed to be a paint job only, I sure hope Im not gonna have to replace the rockers, I haven't got that far into it yet, but Ill keep everyone posted on the "SITUATION" when it arises.
Pete , that truck is not a 77 .its a 73 or 74 . the fenders are the same from 73-80 but that truck has the earlier door panels so it needs the 73-76 doors , the 77 up doors won't work with those door panels .
I acually just got back from my "SECOND" junkyard run for parts on this Pile of ???? and thats where I found them on car-part.com all the way out in NEVADA TEXAS.....Don't worry the videos will be coming up on this story! Take it easy. Pete
haha I worked on a a lot these trucks, run great tuff and reliable but body wise they suck! Even the southern ones rusted, and doors never closed right from the factory lol
You got the stick it in your ass part right, and also the aftermarket crap, thats one reason Im going with junkyard parts.. It's a filthy job but someone's gotta do it. I guess Im the lucky guy!
hey pete you may already know this but im gonna say it anyway the chevy and gmc are the same body from 73 to 84 the only thing that changes is the single head light or double head light you know what talking about?
You can't imaginge the pissed off attitude that flys when they tell you that and you get out there and NOTHING at all, and the guy you talked to so convienitly went home or isn't there. Yeah been there done that many times
Seacil wouldn't feel comfortable driving a non rusted 4x4 pick up truck. Those rust holes come in handy in the summer, free air conditioning, Arkansas style. See ya later goooood buddyyyy
I use car-part.com for new and used parts in the junkyards. You can search locally or the whole US. I did a quick search in Texas and there are a few in Texas but not sure if it is exactly what you need. I did see a New OEM fender for a 1980 C10 at B & T Salvage in Killeen TX.
food for thought if the junk yard name is followed with "heaven" the parts are entirely over priced. I've never had any luck finding fair priced parts from several of those yards most of which are centered in the fort worth area
Oh how I wish you were near me. I just got shit canned from my job. (auto mechanic) Talked to my supervisor letting them know I had to have surgery to have my tonsils removed and would miss 2 weeks of work. I was to have it done a month before, but rescheduled to make it work so they would not be short handed. Said np. So I get my surgery done after a week I get a letter in the mail letting me know my employment is terminated because of my attendance. WTF talk about getting it stuck in the ass.
Whats wrong with a earl scheib paint job? lol that shit slides off after a few months and you can change color and you never get tired of the same color.
Thats the corparation for ya.. Selling it short to the small guy to make a buck. On the other hand, I don't think they built trucks of this kind to actually be collector restorable cars, I think they're main gig was building the truck for the consumer to buy and thats it.... I hope the law suit screwed um in the ass....
hahaha "just paint it" come on pete you know better than that!!! good luck finding rust free fenders and inners!!! im restoring a 77 c10 is that hawii blue on that truck? got brand new GM fenders and certified doors they are not terible. those trucks sucked factory!! far as gaps and shit
Yeah some people can be real assholes, My Sons girlfriend was nice and gave a 2 week notice on her job, they told her since she was so respective to do so, her last day would be tomorrow! ASSHOLES!
If the rust is that extensive, aren't the rockers, floors, and bed sides rusted too? Does it even have a bed? I've shined alot of shit in my life and I found it turns my fingers brown every time... The classics sure look cool, but what a pain in the ass!
