This kind of thing needs to be brought back. I'm sure people would love the personal touch that these idents had. I love all of them so much, I've also tracked down as much of them as possible and looped them for my own amusement. Yes, I'm odd but I'm fine with that. I also have long-term plans to remake a mechanical globe at some point, complete with the reflective steel polished mirror behind it. 🙂
I remember there being a 70s closedown of BBC 1 which had the national anthem played over a photo of a kid drinking juice. Happened possibly during Halloween.
@@bdavebaldwin yes seen those many times. I think that rig was used for a prototype Christmas ident where the globe was a bauble with glitter effect continents there on. That’s also on some of the VT tapes as I’m sure you’re aware.
I think there was also another Christmas ident considered by the BBC to be too frivolous to accompany the national anthem at closedown. I think it was ‘the Robins’ but am happy to be corrected.
Not the Robins but see what Santa brings you tomorrow…… 🎅🏼 but by the time tbe Robins arrived unfortunately so had the COW globe so a press of a button made me miss out on a good long recording.
@@bdavebaldwin Thanks David. Can't wait. I seem to remember BBC presentation having a few problems with the Robins' mechanics back in 1985. Besides fluttering wings, their heads slowly swivelled round followed by an abrupt twang back to the start position. Well, that was the theory. On many occasions I noticed the mechanics seem to have broken down and the Robins remaining static. Too intricate perhaps, but a great Xmas ident all the same. Anyway, looking forward to tomorrow and finding out the answer.
Robin from 1986 and Toys from 1992 are both idents that are considered too jolly to play with the British national anthem. Toys yes, but not too sure about Robin.
