The BBC entered the 80s with quite a few memorable shows. They left the 80s with shows like Fireman Sam, Postman Pat, Only Fools and Horses and Challenge Anneka. I think that the BBC News theme from 1981, in a way, gave us a taster of what to expect in the coming years.
I'm sat at home with Covid. I was a 9yo in 1983. I miss those gentle times and the family members I have lost. Christmas was magical, everything was closed and roads quiet we didn't have much but we spent Christmas together and it was cosy
Yes, how times have changed! The once trusted and highly thought of BBC is now a mere shadow of itself! Such a shame that an institution like the BBC is now run by complete morons more interested in being seen to champion the cause of the moment and appear down with the kids! The Church of England made the same mistake and look at it the state it is in! Complete nonsense on stilts!
Wow you'v got them all including ones I thought I'd never hear again. Not sure all the dates for what was used when are quite accurate though as I remember when TV Ark (?) had a 1974 intro up with the four wheels in the corners.
The way the BBC and ITV did their TV schedules and presentations back then *just* to me seemed more creative/special, and thus unique/magical back then!
6:04 The IBA Archive has the Engineering Announcements programme from 22nd October 1985 in full on its RU-vid channel - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9p-hxkOh0eg.html
Looking at the clock, British television went to bed very early back then at 12.05am. In the states, ABC, CBS and NBC were all on air until at least 1am. Each had their own late night talk show - NBC had Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, CBS had Merv Griffin and ABC had Dick Cavett each on air until 1am.
Listened to the BBC WS in Belgium during the 1980s on shortwave. Was an important part of my day. "BBC World Service. The news, read by Pamela Crighton." "This is Tommy Vance with Rock Salad. Music on the heavier side." -Or something to that effect. How about those endless lists of local sports match scores? Tide listings? "The Brotherhood of Brass" 😊
