Back in 78 to 80 my dad worked as a mechanic at his buddies dodge dealership, he decided to buy what turned out to be his last new vehicle. I wanted him to buy this lime green macho power wagon but he wanted something with more seats so he bought a ram charger the exact same color as in the video, the paint color is called cashmere, I remember that because it came with a little touch up bottle of paint in the glove box. What was funny was it was a 79 model special ordered by a customer that got lost for over 6 months, it was in a railcar that was left abandoned on a siding by the factory when it showed up the 80 models were already in the showroom and the customer had bought something else so my dad got it for a steal, last yrs model, employee discount. I even remember the sticker price because as a 12 yr 10,555.99 was a lot of money.
My grandpa sold MOPARS from 1946-1979 & I grew up in the '60s & '70s so all these will always have a place in my heart! Just sold my 1977 California Custom Dodge Street Van, white with green shag carpet & wood paneling, whiskey barrel captain chairs, mini bar, queen bed, dual sunroofs, CB, 8 track, bubble windows, Cragar mags with white letter BFGs & a healthy 360 4bbl with side pipes ✌💖☮
I was born in 1974, a lot of actual kids' toys were modeled after the custom vans. Don't ask what 5-year-old me thought went on in the back of them except I knew a lot of them had TVs back there, and beds. Imagine laying in bed watching Road Runner cartoons...in the car!
Do you remember how Dodges "Lean Burn" pollution controls made their engines suck right about this time? I do. My dad had a 77 POWER WAGON SNOW-COMMANDER. After 1970 Dodge went down hill and never stopped.
@@johnossendorf9979 can't wait to see the new I6 turbo motor, if it's anything like the pentastar, a whole new headache is born for poor bastards who fix 'em......
15 years old in 1975. One Dodge dealer in Huntington Beach got together with Hodaka motorcycles. They were giving away a Combat Wombat with every truck purchase. Mess the 60s and 70s cars trucks and vans. Had a lot of fun in vans. Tennis shoes 😏 The whole CB trucking phase was fun.
Friend of mine had a '76 440 Ramcharger back in high school that we used to ride around in. Thing was a beast, quickest truck I had ever ridden in for decades.
I had a '78 Dodge Warlock Power Wagon 4x4. It was black with a 318 and continuous 4 WD. It was great. BTW I seen all of the vehicles in this video being displayed in Centerline MI in front of a Chrysler Engineering Building on Lawrence Ave S of 11 mile rd in 1977. The Motor City Rocks.
Oh, how times have changed. Today the term “adult toys” has taken on another, not-so-polite meaning, and naming a model “Warlock” would likely offend people in the Bible Belt.
People were fully aware of the meaning of “adult toys” when this campaign came out. I remember it. It was the 70s and because there was still some moral foundation to American culture it was ok to have a little cheeky fun.
I want one of those vans... You see some van groups show up at the big cars shows but they are super rare... Custom vans didn't seem to survive very well..
i was 16 years old in 1977, when this dodge truck was brand new then. and barefoot girls were just as beautiful and sexy then, just as now august 9th. 2023 2.49 Pm cst USA
If you thought "that girl is going to hurt herself on the roll bar", your getting old. Go out and play! Also, these vehicles will make a comeback, in smaller form. They have to.
The best thing for dodge and the ramcharger was Ford holding back on the Full Size Bronco because of the gas embargo. But once 78 came around Ford crushed it with the 78 Bronco. I owned a 79 Plymouth Trailduster (Ramcharger) and a 79 Bronco and the Bronco was far superior off road and on road, great comfort and ride. The Trailduster rode like a brick.
@@leepullen8892 Just built better, stronger and was far superior off road. The Ramchargers interior loosened up and made a ton of noise and squeaked allot. The road noise was at times unbearable. The 4wd system was far superior on the Bronco. Even driving the Bronco it felt solid and strong where the Ramcharger was like being inside of a tin can.
This was clearly an attempt by Mopar to compete with Toyota who is getting a lot of sales because of advertising that targeted customer lifestyle rather than the product itself.
Toyota didn't have a factory 4x4 until 79 and this version of Dodge trucks came out in 77, so I would say that Toyota was copying the domestics. However, Toyota was able to come in at a lower price point which brought the fun to a younger generation.
I so miss vehicles that have a soul & style, I can't stand these mass produced POS'S! Fugly looking Eggs 🥚 with wheels! And please 🙏 No one start in with how safe these new shitboxes are! I don't give a shyt about it! That's what happened last time I defended these works of American art! Cause I'm sure car companies can make them with style and safety and in America 🇺🇸 But they don't and they won't! It's not like we need jobs or something that would help us rebuild places like Detroit! FTW
yeah round em off for aero dynamics.. They should just build all cars off the same platform at this point. Although we may get more car makers into the EV game... anyone can build a golf cart :)
people had a lot of issues with carbs of the day... Idling was a big problem but easily fixed with a carb tune up. Othewise I grew up with a 78 and it didnt have any issue.
We had a 77 short bed dodge my mom drove to work every day it was a tough truck l drove it when l was in high school raced a few of my buddies and beat them to it had 360 with a 4 barrel it would fly 😄😄😄😄
