A Bridge too far? Maybe, even IF we make it we have a 3,000 mile journey to get home. Come along in this second episode of my journey to take and Old Ford across a modern America. A 1977 Ford Maverick journey’s across America in Spring of 2023.

It was my pleasure to accompany you on this crazy trip. And I have an idea for another challenge for us. I think the Daytona is up for it. But maybe you want to try a newer car for yourself!

I met you on Saturday at CJ Pony parts. I was parked next to Glen. Great series. I went cross country with my parents and 2 brothers in a 1978 Thunderbird in 1978. No GPS, no cell phones. Just a road atlas, CB radio, a deck of cards, and a few coloring books. My dad’s CB handle was Thunderchicken.

The whole family was pulling for you and the Maverick (aka honeybee) and I was not surprised you did exactly what you set out to do! Your videos are so well done on so many levels. Thanks for giving the maverick your very best. Hoping whoever buys it enjoys the car as much as we did once owning it and watching you take it to a whole new level. Great job!

Thank you Mike! I glad you enjoyed the videos and you and the family will be happy to know the Maverick went to a gentlemen in Virginia that has been looking for one exactly as it was for over a year now. It will lead the pampered life moving forward. He plans to drive it on sunny days and park it inside the when not is use. I think it has a good home! He has named it bumblebee. :)

Congrats on a mildly unhindered trip and return. All things considered not bad for a vehicle of that age 👍🏻

Thanks you sir and I agree. 46 years is a long time for any part to function especially when stressed with constant use over 13 days. Happy to say the car is right now!

I really enjoyed these two vids!! I was 12 in the summer of 1969 when my Mom drove us from L.A. to Chicago & back in our new Maverick 170. She managed to get it up to 90MPH in Colorado, but it took awhile. 😂 It was a great trip. So glad you made it with only a few hiccups.

Always liked the mavericks despite them being called the poor man’s mustang in my youth. If I hadn’t ended up with a 69 mustang I wouldn’t mind restomodding one. Nice to see these still getting love.

My grandson's name is Maverick. I've played with the idea of getting him one, but he's only 8. It would give me time to fix it up though. In CA, you only want to buy '75 or older because '76 and up are subject to smog inspections. Pre'73s are better looking, with the original bumpers.

Thank you for the kinds words. It was a hell of trip to jam into 13 Days. The car and it's driver are no longer let's say "Spring chickens" but we got the job done.

Nice adventure! I see you’re from the Harrisburg area, I’m from the Scranton/Wilkes Barre area. I’m always wrenching and riding up there! You gotta love the old stuff. I really miss my Maverick after watching this… 🔧🇺🇸

Tony do you still have the Maverick? For my first car was a 1977 Mercury Comet with 200 CID inline 6 with 3 on the tree. God I wish I still had it.Same color as your Maverick but all canary yellow. With manual steering manual breaks no A/C and just a AM radio. At one time I was able to replace the clutch within 2 hours by myself from always trying do burn outs and racing others. Didn't do many or win many but I was young and dumb. Bought a 351 Windsor for it. Then I got married and had children. Pulled it off the road and someone knocked on the door and knew more than I did and offered me what I thought was way to much money for it and just sold it. Thought man there is a million of them when I am able i'll just buy another one lol. God I so wish I kept it. For it never left me down. And yes 36 years latter I am still gratefully married to the same wonderful beautiful lady.

Thanks for sharing your story. My car went to a person with a similar story in Virginia less than week after I returned. They are out there but you need to constantly looking for just the right car. Best of luck and keep me updated!

Awesome video series. I've done many round trips from New Jersey to Seattle. I was wondering if the Maverick has A/C? Road trips are the best way to see America.

Glad you made it. Out of curiosity, what kind of mileage did you get in the Maverick?
@TonysFordsandMustangs
@TonysFordsandMustangs Год назад
Thank you and thanks for watching! Believe or not it depended on the wind direction. Almost the entire trip west we were fighting a head wind and I was around 18 MPG. Going east it was a tailwind I was seeing 21 MPG. It was windy the entire trip there and back except for the last day.

Why sell it off? In 6000 miles you bonded with that thing..at that point it should be a keeper for life..

You do what you think you need to do. A starter works or it doesn't. Same with a power steering pump. The alignment I should have checked same with the cat
