A 1977 Ford Maverick that I purchase for only $4000 is my vehicle of choice for a 6,200 mile less than 14 day road trip across America from my Central Pennsylvania home to the rock throwing distance of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.

I got my 74 Mav from Country Classic Cars off 55 south of Springfield Illinois. Love it. Did skinny bumper conversion and soon 302 swap.

@@TonysFordsandMustangs yes sir, I’m patiently awaiting part 2 of the trip. One of my neighbors has a Maverick just like yours, except his is red, all original with the inline 6 automatic, black bench seat interior. His car has approximately 100k miles on it. I’m not sure about the mileage, but it is definitely a great looking car.

As I drove half way across the country to Fort Benning, GA in 1987 in a really clapped out high mileage 1975 Pinto wagon in a couple of days with no problems, certainly more than achievable. The trip back the Midwest several months later saw a broken timing belt just out side of Pensacola, FL ( I took the long way back). After a couple of weeks in Gulf Coast FL at the beach, it was fixed and I drove back from there in a couple of days with no mishaps. This was 65 mph days although 70 was probably push it it. Didn’t have much left in it at 80.

Thanks for watching and sharing. I did the same type of trips back in those days. I was stationed at Pope AFB in 1987 and would drive back to PA every other weekend in a 67 Straight 6 Mustang. Things have changed a bit since those days. I will cover some of that stuff in the next video.

Love that Maverick, those things came out when I was in high school. A friend of mine inherited a Maverick Grabber 302, and went on to make a cam change and high rise with Holley 4 bbl. That car was really quick for what it was back in the day. Fast forward, I'm retired, and purchased a 1973 Mach 1 Mustang. It is the car I wanted when I was 16, in 1973, but my Dad wouldn't buy me one, and I hadn't saved enough money to get one myself. Or course, my buddy down the road got one. Anyway, it looks great, but like you said, it is a old car, and has some of it's own peculiarities. 351C runs great, but does have a small harmonic vibration between 2000-3000 RPM, that I haven't found yet. Also, had to replace my turn signal flasher, at which all the lights outside work fine, but turn indicators inside aren't working. Just put new shocks and a new pitman arm on it. So, it is a hobby, work in progress, but I love driving it to cruise ins and car shows, and watching other people do a double take as I ride by lol. Love your Mach 1 btw.

@TonysFordsandMustangs Год назад
Thank for watching and sharing your story! Really The Maverick should being doing local car shows & cruise in's but I had to give it a shot and see if it could still preform like a car. The old cars have their issues (The turn signals in Maverick are the exact same way) but as long as they can move you forward you can deal with it when you get around to it.

I love your Mach 1 the most because that was my 1st car and i relly miss it's performance, style and comfort. I would buy your Maverick but i need the small chrome bumper conversion becuse i hate those big silver taxi cab bangers! Then a would put in a 3 speed with oveedrive trans. from a '77 Granada that i have to get a boost in peformance and fuel economy. And of course a nice low restriction exhaust system and maybe some 14x7 aluminum Mustang or Maverick wheels. The 250 is a rock solid 7 main bearings engine. I swapped one from a '71 Maverick 4 dr into my '66 Mustang with a 4 speed from a '67 and '66 V-8 driveshaft. Only change was to use a Pinto yoke on little 4 lug rear axle and the Maverick gas pedal and throttle cable. Simple boost in power and reliability from.my 200k plus mile worn 200 six and non syncro 3 speed. I used a Hurst short throw shifter. The gearing was stock i think 3.20 so i kept it at highway 70 mph 75 max.

Thanks for watching! The Maverick is sold and didn't last long. The new owner was looking for that exact car and I think it has found a good home. As to my 70 Mach 1 that might be sale this spring. I'm kicking it around anyway. I have nothing left to do to the car. I can jump in and drive it anywhere without a worry. I have owned it since 2006 and have many adventures in it so that's the reason I still have it.

@@billkerstein1637 I'm open to offers. I have not listed it for sale anywhere and there a bunch of videos on the channel about the car you can check out. It is not a factory original car as I built to drive it but is rust free and mechanically perfect with 45K original miles. It had 31k on it when i bought it. I have phone book full of receipts including a complete rebuild of the engine in 2007. My email address is on the home page of the channel.

@@TonysFordsandMustangs Do you happen to know what seats could fit in my maverick its a 71 year but has the bench seat I would like bucket seats like yours but its getting harder to find and was wondering if you knew like a certian type of year mustang bucket seats would fit mine
@TonysFordsandMustangs
@TonysFordsandMustangs Год назад
@@MiguelGarcia-ec5gi I know they used the buckets similar to the 71 - 73 mustangs in the early Mavericks. Those aren't cheap either. I would think any buckets out of a 70's ford could work however you should check and make sure the carpet is all there. Plus most mavericks did not come consoles so it looks kind of bare between the seats.
