I had a 1980 Chevy Caprice, started a little better than that in the cold, but still. It took at least five minutes of trying to get it to start, then it had to warm up for at least ten or fifteen minutes before it would drive without stalling. For those that know nothing about cars, it's because of carburetors and automatic chokes (that didn't really work anymore). You have no idea what a monumental advancement fuel injection was..

If you've got an old Detroit classic that you really love, it is WORTH IT to spend the money to convert it to Electronic Ignition and Real Live Fuel Injection. Pricey, but worth it.

@@misterwhipple2870 on the ignition aspect, absolutely. Nothing beats the electrical output of modern day ignition’s. As far as carburetors versus fuel injection goals, it is a battle that cannot be one nor lost for ease of use fuel injection wins every time. For simplicity of use, the carburetor wins every time for overall performance, they are almost identical assuming the carburetor is being tune by someone who knows his stuff but then again, the same could be applied to tuning a fuel injected engine. It all depends how you say the word TOMATO.

awesome car. ive owned several back in the day. drove them as everyday cars. your cold start brought back great memories. warming her before my commute to work. i would let her run for 10-15 minutes then kick her idle down and she would be good all day. love and miss those 460s

I have the same car. “77 with original 88,000 miles. Got it from the original owner who had the car rustproofed. It is a very cold weather hater. Takes a lot to get it started and warmed up before I can drive it.

How long does it usually take to start on freezing cold mornings? Does it take longer when it hasn't been used for several days?

Please do not start smoking. It’s an awful habit. Especially if you are not of age to legally buy tobacco. With that said; Any full flavor imo. Winstons are decent, Lucky Strike, Chesterfield, Camel. My favorite filtereds are probably Camel Wides. If they’re too harsh for you try lights. Once you get used to full flavors, go to non-filters. I started balls to the wall with nonfiltered Camels.

@@BigDevT Oh cool I think my uncle smokes those Camel ones. I bet we can just get a couple of his and try it. Thanks man!

My 1977 Grand Marquis and every other car the speedometer only went to 85 mph. That’s a pre 55 mph cluster.
@misterwhipple2870
@misterwhipple2870 Год назад
Exactly! I commented on that but it seems that my comment got snuffed. I was thinking 1973 or 1974.
@hearmonheardjr8065
@hearmonheardjr8065 Год назад
That’s not a 1977 Grand Marquis the speedometer only registers 85 mph not 120 mph.
@BigDevT
@BigDevT Год назад
I put a older cluster in it. It’ll do every bit of 85 so I wanted more. The car is indeed a ‘77.

How long did it sit before you started it couple of days in the cold? Maybe a week? Or was that just overnight lol

Nice cold start! Interesting how this car only has power front windows and no AC, considering it's a GRAND Marquis. This must be a late 1976 build (1977 model year) as I believe in 1977 they went to the 85mph speedometer. Check out my 76 on my channel. SUBSCRIBED
@BigDevT
@BigDevT 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for the subscribe! It’s a 2 door hence the power windows, and it has the automatic climate control AC! It’s decently optioned out. It was produced June of ‘77, the Speedo was swapped out by a previous owner
