This a repost that has been completely remastered.
In June of 1977, the legendary Roy Orbison performed a concert at the Cranbrook Memorial Arena. Before the show was to start, EK Radio's F.J. Hurtak and Cable 11's Mike Turner waited patiently outside the arena in hopes of "ambushing" Orbison into giving an interview. The rest is history on video.
When we first published this video in 2019 (our first video post!), we had three second generation dubs to choose from. This remaster used a freshly discovered copy from an old 3/4 tape and the quality is much better.
For the video remaster portion, each of the roughly 6600 frames of the interview were exported and ran through Gigapixel Topaz A.I., one frame at a time, then compiled back into a video file. In the A.I.'s attempts to recognize faces, there are some artifacts remaining that we chose not to remove out of fear of damaging the clip. It's not perfect, but it is certainly much better than it was.
The audio was a different story. In 2019 we originally tried to combine the camera microphone with F.J.'s cassette recording but the results were mixed. This copy used only the camera microphone for the audio....with a pile of audio plugins to remove the hum, hiss and additional artifacts. You can only do so much with a bad recording.
Special thanks goes to my fellow team member, Carolyn. Carolyn has truly excelled while working with us and she's become brave enough to try new things. The result of her attempt at remastering the original video was what prompted this total remaster - and without her inspiration to do it, it never would have got done. Thank you, Carolyn!
Ken Newman was present when this video was shot, and there has been some debate over who actually ran the camera, Mike or him. We'll just leave it at that.
