As a grown man up in years, I'm bursting with admiration and respect for this lovely man, and nearly in tears whenever I hear his pure and inimitable voice.
Love this comment, you done took the words out my mouth! He was admirable to a fault, and that doesn't even make sense. It's easy to realise that alot of people in the entertainment biz are fucked, it's harder to remember that there are exceptions to the rule.
I saw Roy Orbison live at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, Australia, when I was in my late teens. He was amazing, just came on stage, stood in front of the mike with his band backing him and sang and brought the house down. No strobe lights, smoke bombs or dancing girls just pure entertainment. Brilliant. What a loss. Sad. R.I.P., Roy.
It’s always a risk watching an interview of a performer you admire greatly, but seeing how wonderful and gentle Roy Orbison was just adds to the impression of how special a man he clearly was.
You can tell by this interview what a sweet, kind, gentle, soul Roy had, and indeed he sang like an angel. I wish I could have seen him, but I was only two when he died, tears.
Allison Burke I was an adult when Roy Orbison died. My father had been a fan for decades. Only recently did I catch on to just how remarkable he was. I sure wish he were around so I could go to one of his shows. After seeing the video of "You Got It," which is one of my favorite songs, I feel cheated. I sure wish he had stopped smoking. What a kind and remarkably talented entertainer. One of a kind. RIP, Roy.
Agreed. So humble and fascinating to see him in person . To me, the emotional darkness of his songs makes me feel so bad considering his actual character. Guy seemed awesome and may he RIP
@@pissedoffdude1 known as a gentle and loving but also very sensitive and troubled soul and who often had trouble coping. He had enormous talent but great trajedy befell him in life and he coped with it partly through addiction. It was finally too much and he sadly passed the year after this interview at age 52. R.I.P. Roy Orbison you are loved and missed by so many! 🙏😢❤️
Listen, word of warning, never try a Roy Orbison record on a karaoke night, not only will it strangle you, it will retract your bollocks and make a complete tosser of you. Nobody could hit the notes quite like Roy, great lad.
What a modest and down-to-earth man Roy is. Truly captivating just by his pure kindness. Wish he had had a bit longer to enjoy his comeback than he did, he deserved it. Love his music and love him.
Such a humble and modest man whose life was unfortunately full of tragedy. Just when everything was going well for him again, he died, much too young. But his songs will live forever.
Such a humble guy and a true gentleman. If I'd had a voice like that along with huge praise from Elvis - I imagine I'd be an insufferable egotist who didn't like hearing the word 'No'. Lol. Love you Roy !! God bless you from all here on earth. You keep singing with the angels my friend !! You were & always will be fabulous. Peace. Rx
What a great privilege it was to be able to watch this interview of one of the greatest singer's in the history of "Rock & Roll. His talent was amazing and his beautiful voice made him one of the greatest singer's in the world of music. I have to agree with Elvis, Roy Orbison had one of the greatest voice's ever in "Rock & Roll", it's such a terrible shame we lost this great talent at such a young age. Roy's music will go on for many years to come and thank's to RU-vid the whole World can still enjoy Roy's amazing talent.
I first heard Roy in 1961, I was eleven, he survived the great groups like the Beatles because he was pure class, I'm 65 now and still listen to his songs because they're still pure class.
CLASS ACT ! So humble, composed, honest, open, and gentle spirit. I'm glad he went out on such a high note, well deserved. And what contrast to the modern trashy music being produced now.
What an Icon to have on "Good Morning Britain"... Interviewed by hairy hands Richard Keys himself!... Shocking comment saying "ohh you've put some pounds on since those days" and being ignorant asking him about his eyesight AGAIN when he had already explained earlier on that it was fine... Such a nice, humble person who had been through so much tragedy with his wife & 2 boys dying so young... I was only 4 when he sadly died but his music has hit a chord with me ever since I was little. Thank you & God bless you Roy.
I felt the same way about the question about weight. How rude. Roy struggled with his weight and yo yo dieted which along with smoking contributed to his death . Probably due to people saying these types of things . grrr.
Many have commented below about how gentle, humble, and talented Roy was. What surprised me by reading his life story was that nobody worked harder recording and touring than Orbison.
He felt his voice was a gift from God , And he felt he needed to share it . He also stated in an interview that he was a better husband friend and father when he was working .
Roy was a class act. I saw him live in the UK in the 1980's and he brought the house down. At the end the audience walked out as if they had been stunned, it was incredible.
i literally envy the Good Morning Britain host who got to sit in such proximity to Roy Orbison and have this lengthy and pleasant chat with him. Roy died years before I was born but I have always admired him as the most talented American vocalist ever! I would have loved to see him in concert.
+PYSCOPOMP he was one of the very few people that sound even better live than On record... But he seemed like a very kind and a extremely modest person he didn't talk very much in between songs just sang as much as he could ..it was a experience to remember and it's very sad you can't now hear him live ...
Saw Roy in 1974 in the Festival Theatre Paignton Devon UK, sadly it’s no longer a Theatre. He stood in front of the Mic and the most amazing thing happened, a pure voice like I had never heard before or since, he was unique and a talented song writer. I’m very glad I saw him in concert.
Gosh! When I first heard the incredible sweet voice of "Roy Orbison" on our local "Radio Demerara" station in So. America back in the late 1950's .. simply blew this teenager away with his "Dream Baby" among his other incredible hits. Merci beaucoup
They were also close friends and every time Roy was back i n Memphis for a recording he called Elvis who went down to the recording sfrudio and the hugged each other and jammed together. I wish I could have been there.
What a talent. And it didn't go to his head. What all artists should aspire to, knowing his own abilities but not egotistical at all. You're missed Roy. Peace.
First time I saw Roy Orbison was at a Beatles show in 1963. Roy closed the first half and you could hear a pin drop, then second half was the Beatles and we all screamed our heads off, since I grew up I really got to appreciate his music. What an amazing voice he had and so unique
At 08:45 in the morning you say..not a lot has changed you put on a few pounds!! What an insult to an absolute legend! Roy Orbison is an absolute gentleman in this inteview! can't wait to listen to the new CD. RIP.
Rob C British people are just more genuine. After 25 years he could have said you look a lot older, but he didn't look very much different apart from putting on a few pounds. He did look pretty skinny in the older clips they showed. If you want to hear a real insult, you should meet my mother, she always opens her mouth before engaging her brain. I much prefer this style of interviewing than the American interviewers, they are what I would call brown nose interviewers. It is so sycophantic. I thought Roy looked very relaxed, and it seems to me that our modern political correctness brains, were enraged to hear a normal human interaction from 32 years ago.
At 5:52, one really has to laugh when he says that he was able to persevere in the music business because he had "confidence and ego". He's such a sincere, humble man. Ego is the last thing I'd ever think of with regard to Roy Orbison.
He had enough ego and confidence, and courage, to do it despite his fears. He was known as a shy and sensitive man who often had trouble coping. But he was also very driven. So yeah he's telling it like it is here but making an understatement of sorts! R.I.P. Roy! 🙏
Definately one of the greatest of all time, great singer, performer, guitarist, superb songs. He got his start thanks to the great man himself - Sam Phillips. One of my favourite Sun artists.
