Like other commenter, I was there. I was a Tech Inspector. Was out on the course helping pit a couple or 3 cars during the race. Then had to be back to do post-race tech. I was building my own Class 2 (unlimited 2 seat buggy) at the time. Won a championship with it a few years later. Did lots of business with Scott McKenzie in building and maintaining it. Very sharp guy.

1978 was the first mint 400 for me. I was 10 and I was hooked. My dad was involved with checkers and we set up at mile 50. My brothers and I loved it. We still go out and watch races and have a class 9 car that we race at age 54. Still love going to the races.

My father and uncle raced in this race. They drove the the number 202 buggy of John Boggess, sponsored by Gold Key Lounge.

Awesome! I was wondering what the Vintage Tamiya buggys are modelled after and i found it, this and the Meyers Manx (Sand Rover)!
