This is how I converted my 2wd 1979 F350 Crewcab with 8 foot bed. I ground all the welds to remove the 2wd parts, but did not cut the C-Channel frame. I used the inner C-Channel parts from two trucks. The engine frame stands and straight C-Channel pieces behind it came from a 1978 Ford Bronco. The Steering box, Front axle, C6 automatic transmission, NP205 transfer case, and front cross member came from a 1979 Ford F250 with the Dana 60 front axle.

im building a 75 f-250 ranger xlt. I put a 460 in it but its 2wd and im trying to convert it to 4wd and get it running. I have no knoweledge of these trucks or where to even start anything but at least you helped me get a good understanding of how to do the swap and I have a little bit of hope thank you!

I did the 4x4 conversion as described in the video, because I did not want to cut the C-channel frame. I have seen a bunch of people do it that way, but I did not want to chance it cracking where it is butted together. There are a lot of 1973-1979 Ford truck groups out there and they are of great help. Good luck!

I love the crewcabs and I plan on starting the roof replacement hopefully this spring. I found a NOS (New Old Stock) 1973-1979 2 door roof skin on eBay a few months ago. It was expensive and only about a 3 hour drive to pick it up. I bit the bullet and bought it because if I didn't I know I would be kicking myself later. It was in the original box that came from the FoMoCo parts distribution plant in Teterboro New Jersey back in 1984! I have to find another roof section just incase I have damage I don't see. Luckily I have a donor cab that I got from an US Air Force general that retired to New Jersey. The truck was originally bought for the US Air Force, and he bought it when there was an auction when he was in New Mexico. Anyway......You should do a walk around video for your truck.....I know me and many others would like to see it on RU-vid.

I have been dragging my feet waiting for AMD (Auto Metal Direct) or some other sheet metal manufacture to make a roof skin. I know that "if" they make a roof skin, it will be for a regular cab. If they ever make one I would have to buy two skins to graft onto my crewcab. I have measured all the typical vans at the junkyard and all seem too small for all the sheet metal it would take to make one. I did find out that a Ram Promaster Cargo Van has enough metal to make it in one shot. It is wide enough and long enought to do it all. I plan on getting my spare cab I have had at my storage garage for years over to the house for re-roof (maybe). The spare cab I have had for years (a 1977 Crewcab) has a quarter size rust bubble in the roof. I am sure that rust bubble isn't the only spot, so I want to inspect it with a small camera. If there is the slightest rust near where the 3 layers come together, I will try to cut it out and patch it. If it is bad I may have to drill out all the spot welds and carefully remove the roof. I will try to make a video or take pictures of the progress, but I will see what happens. I don't know how to weld, but luckily I have a great brother who does (and wants to see the truck get done too). I have another decent (fixable) bed, fenders, hood, NOS Aluminum grill surround, etc to put on. I was going to make a 1979 Indy 500 Pace Truck "Paint Scheme" out of it, but I think I will be going all Red and White inside racetrack chrome and roof. Think Walmart founder Sam Walton's famous 1979 F-150 Custom, but instead of a red roof it will have a white roof. It will look like this but lifted: www.pcarmarket.com/auction/1979-ford-f-350-crew-cab-4-door-ranger-xlt/ With my luck I will spend alot of time and money to get it done, then AMD will come out with the roof skins a week later. Wish me luck!
