A classmate/friend of mine’s dad had a 1979 Club Wagon. A red one. He bought a green 1978 Chateau Club Wagon with round headlights and swapped parts between both vans. Eventually the red 79 died and he drove the green one full time.
I grew up riding in the back of a 79 club wagon. My father sold it back in 2007 2008 in the southern California area and I low key been trying to find it again mostly out of curiosity of how it ended up but if its in fair condition I just might be interested im owning again. It was light brown kinda copper looking with two darker brown lines that ran along the sides two 2x4ft maybe 3x5ft windows on the left and one on the right side behind the sliding door which had the big window on the door and two windows on the back doors. Had the mount for the spare tire on the back right door no ladder and no running bords interior had green carpet but most of it was stripped and only had a bench seat in the far back. We put a gray bench seat from some GM truck or van
I own a 1990 that we did do this with (last year of this gen). 302/AOD/3.55LS she's a good van and has been very good to us (3x cross country). Very reliable but our particular drivetrain doesn't leave any room for fun (aka, slow). We're considering towing a camper next time and despite her tow rating i have my doubts she can actually do it. We drove over the siskiyou pass on I-5 pedal to the floor in 2nd doing 30mph totaling 7,450 on the scales. But very reliable
Wow. I feel old now. I had one of them. But it was brown and it was 4 wheel drive. 460 engine. C6 tranny. It was a beast. Had lots of fun. But very bad on gas ⛽.
