Here is a clearer video. You can see a bit more detail and there was also a bit more sun out today! And yes it is one of the 202 factory 4 speeds they made that year. But now it's fitted with a muncie M-21 with a 67 chevelle 12 bolt 3:31 posi. I know, I know I need a new gas tank. One thing at a time. I need to recover the front seats, put in the new headliner, and install my new carpet. After that I may take off the upper and lower A frames and powder coat them, of course at (Top Dog Powder Coating) and put in some new bushings. The rear end has UMI upper and lower control arms as well as the upper and lower connecting braces.

That's probably the best Malibu I've ever seen. Probably doesn't mean much coming from a 20 year old, but still, that's one very nice machine.

Love these stock look builds. Guy in my town has a 56 wagon with a 396 in it and if it weren't for the one small dent in the header by the steering box, you would swear gm made it that way lol
@Speedkills396
@Speedkills396 11 лет назад
The motor mounts you want to use are the stock small block ones. As for springs, those are the original small block springs in my car. The 202 production run is only for the 1980's. The 78 &79's had more 4 speeds made. Thanks for the compliments, my plan was to make a 1980 Z/16 as well and make people think it was real, and a lot of people ask if it came that way. Good luck with yours!!!

All you have to do is a little research to find out that GM said they only made 202 malibu's in 1980 with the 4 speed option. This car came with a Saginaw 4 speed....I also have the build sheet that came with it. Both copies...the one under the seat and the one on top of the gas tank.

THANK U, THANK U, THANK U!!!!! I'm in the BEGINNING stages of buildin' my 1 of none, what if, phantom: "80.5 Malibu SS Z-16". The motor installation looks as if it was factory correct!!! If u don't mind me askin', what motor mounts did u use & what brand of front springs as well? I haven't found ANY sources for big block springs for 78-81 Malibu's!?!? .... & I "THINK" the total run of the 202 "B/W 4-speed T-10" Malibu's spanned from '78-'81?

Yeah back in highschool a friend of mine had the '79 SS/396BB with a B&M gateshifter tranny,411rear end and I used to take him off the line in my '77 nova/'64 327/339 hp vette SB,M22 rockcrusher speed but by 2nd gear he would smoke that rubber and myself as well lol...good times...that is a clean and mean build my friend!

It's actually a 396 but I used the stock 305 chevy mounts. The towers on the side of the block have to be for a passenger car and not a truck. But the small block mounts are the same as the big block ones. I actually went and bought new mounts for the ones that attach to the frame. And I powder coated the towers at my shop.
@Speedkills396
@Speedkills396 12 лет назад
It's a 402 .030 with a 268 roller cam and roller rockers, about 9.5:1 compression, stock ex. manifolds, al intake and a Q jet.
@diabel1969

I am curious about a couple things though.. Are you running a saginaw in this car behind that big block? I can't see any other way to get the shfiter into the stock location with a muncie or b/w due to the reverse linkage being on the tailshaft, and the design of the shifter? My real question is the steering column? Did somebody fabricate that column for you, or is it possibly from an elcamino? They didn't make many with the tilt wheel and the key release. Thanks!

A well planned out well executed malibu ..The only limitations for them with big blocks is Stock hood Low rise intake ONLY .. No carb spacers No Hi rises and if you run Headers your limits are tube size if you want them in the frame and under the car ...I know I have owned a 482 inch wagon with TH350 and couldn't shut My stock hood . so I purchased the 3 1/2 inch cowl hood and My TeamG 850cfm fit fine. front ralleys were off a 74 Monte 15X7s until I could have them cut to 15X4s Nice car bud.

if you are referring to the plastic cover, it's the color it is supposed to be. It's just a plastic cover that goes over the steering section.

No way. Does it hold up to the power that the big block pushes if you romp on it much? I heard they don't hold up to much torque and horsepower. I'm still experimenting with the GM Manual Transmissions. Just need a little help is all :)

Those aren't stock mufflers....they are mufflers that a friend loaned me until I could get some new exhaust on. They were on his 67 Camaro with a 468 BBC that was used to drag race. They have handled plenty of horsepower in the past. But I have another video that shows the new exhaust. Thanks for the compliment.

Haha this car is amazing! It's funny that your license plate says "Billy 3" because my name is William (Billy) and I am the Third (William E. B. III)! My dad and i just bought one of these this past weekend and it has a 229 v6 that we're swaping out with a 305 or 327 and putting a 12 bolt rear end in it! Hope to see more videos of this car if you don't mind!

I'm curious where your getting the 1 of 202 count from? I have a factory 78 with some options and the nearest breakdown i've ever heard was from the GM package I was able to get on my car back in the early 90's stating that GM produced 1200 manual shift G body cars per year but not breaking down any more than that between elky's, wagon's, 4 door/2 door, and monte's, or V6/3speed/V8/4speed. Looks as though tach and gauge package wasn't factory though in your car as it doesn't match. Clean Car!

continued.. sorry.. As stated, if the shifter is in the stock factory location, considering the shifter bolts up on the G body between the tailshaft and main housing, I can't figure out how your able to use the stock location unless your still running a saginaw, as the other tranny's mount the shifter on the end of the tailshaft with longer rods which would put the shifter between the seats more. If possible, could you just explain what you did to make the shifter work, thanks!

No I am not running a Saginaw....As stated before it's an M-21 four speed. It is a factory steering column. Factory manual floor shift column with the tilt option. It's all real. It is now, a big block, M-21 four speed car with a 12 bolt posi. None of that is factory but it is a real factory V-8 four speed car with tilt wheel, gauge package, F-41 suspension, and rear defrost!!

It is the same transmission GM used in all of their high performance cars though the late 60s. It holds up just fine. Alot of late 60's cars were rated at 375-400 hp....but were actaully putting out somewhere in the neighborhood of 500, with this same tranny.

they didn't make any b/w 4 speed or t-10 malibu's, they're all saginaw's.. as for the 202 figure? not really sure where your getting your figures from on this video, but to my knowledge, gm produced 1200 G body manual shift cars per year (on the average) which include malibu/elcamino/malibu wagons/monte carlo's. I personally have a 78 with the 4 speed, and have owned a few 1980 malibu 4 speed cars, and a 1980 elcamino 4 speed car. Nice clean car though..
@diabel1969
@diabel1969 11 лет назад
i'm not doubting the car is real, as previously stated, I currently own a 78, and have owned other's including 80's and a 80 elcamino ss. I've NEVER seen that tilt column outside of an elcamino, which is why I inquired about it. Also I inquired about the shifter location, as it look to be in the factory location, and I fiddled with the idea of running a bw super T10 or muncie in my car, but couldn't figure out the rod for reverse as it's on the side cover of the saginaw, and tail of the others

THESE ARE #'S FROM THE JULY 1991 SUPER CHEVY MAGAZINE FOR 2 DOOR MALIBUS WITH 4-SPEEDS. THEY LIST THEIR SOURCE AS TAILFINS AND BOWTIES. 1978=1654 1979=1903 1980=202 As you can plainly see..1980 had the lowest run of 4 speeds....202. Other sites have the same info. The tach and gauge package IS factory. The dash was changed to an 81 style dash but the gauge cluster is original. Please check your info before commenting. It's better to be thought an idiot then open your mouth and be proved one!!
